CHICAGO -- Matt Garza felt he was just a bit off with his command on Tuesday. That was just enough for the Chicago Cubs to break through against the Brewers right-hander.Trevor Cahill came off the disabled list to throw five innings of two-hit ball in his first start in nearly 16 months, and the Cubs beat Milwaukee 4-0 in the opener of a day-night doubleheader.Garza (4-5) allowed three runs and two hits but needed 103 pitches to get through five innings. The three walks hurt, he said. To me, the three walks are the three runs.Just one of the runners to score reached on a walk, but Garza thought walks played a role in each rally. They did a good job of grinding out at-bats, he said. They fouled off a lot pitches. Granted, I didnt have the best command today. It was definitely a grind.Garza allowed a run in a 28-pitch first inning and his run-scoring wild pitch in the third made it 2-0. In the fourth, Cahill successfully bunted a 3-2 pitch, and first baseman Chris Carters flip home wasnt in time to get a sliding Chris Coghlan.Cahill allowed two walks and struck out Manny Pina with a runner on third to end the fifth.I was just trying to go as many as I could, Cahill said. I was fortunate to get five and, hopefully, didnt beat up the bullpen too much.Mike Montgomery followed with two innings, Hector Rondon worked the eighth and Joe Smith walked two in the ninth before Aroldis Chapman got two outs to close a three-hitter.Cahill (2-3) also drove in a run with a safety squeeze bunt, and the Cubs added runs on a wild pitch and Addison Russells sacrifice fly.Chapman hit 103 mph while striking out two for his fifth save with the Cubs, who ended a two-game skid.Chicagos Jason Hammel (12-5) was to face fellow Chase Anderson (7-10) in the second game.Cahill was a 2010 All-Star before consecutive 200-inning seasons with Oakland. But the right-hander struggled in Arizona, started three games for Atlanta in April last year, moved to the bullpen and was released before signing with Chicago. He was a reliever until going on the disabled list with right knee tendinitis. But he was stretched out in a rehab assignment and had good command in his first big league appearance since July 9.Coghlan hit a sacrifice fly in the eighth off Damien Magnifico, who made his major league debut.NO BRAUNBrewers slugger Ryan Braun, who homered twice and drove in six runs Sunday, wasnt in the Game 1 lineup. He flied out as a pinch-hitter in the eighth.TRAINERS ROOMBrewers: Struggling RHP Michael Blazek went on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain. He was really just fatigued, manager Craig Counsell said. But because of the scheduling situation and because hes had some elbow soreness this season, we thought it was best to be safe. Magnifico was called up from Triple-A Colorado Springs.Cubs: Manager Joe Maddon said RHP John Lackey (shoulder stiffness) could have his next start pushed back. . RHP Pedro Strop (knee surgery) was off crutches. Hes expected to miss at least a month.visiting clubhouse. Were on top of each other, thats for sure, Brewers manager Craig Counsell said.UP NEXTCubs RHP Jon Lester (12-4, 2.93) faces RHP Jimmy Nelson (6-12, 4.07) on Wednesday night. Bruce Sutter . John Lucas, signed as a mentor for rookie Trey Burke, showed he can score if required, scoring 12 points of his 16 points in the second quarter as Utah built an 18-point lead. Tony La Russa . It was the kind of score that might make everyone else wonder which course he was playing. Except that Graeme McDowell saw the whole thing. Crouched behind the 10th green at Sheshan International, McDowell looked over at the powerful American and said, "Ive probably seen 18 of the best drives Ive seen all year in the last two days. http://www.custommlbcardinalsjersey.com/custom-nelson-briles-jersey-large-151q.html . -- Jakob Silfverberg is making himself right at home with the Anaheim Ducks, scoring four goals in his first four games. Rangel Ravelo . The team says the Spain international has a muscle pull in his right leg. Robredo, ranked No. 16, bounced back from an upset loss to Leonardo Mayer in the second round of the Royal Guard Open in Chile last week to down Carreno Busta in 1 hour, 25 minutes. On a day filled mostly with qualifying matches, fifth-seeded Marcel Granollers of Spain also entered the second with a 7-5, 3-6, 6-2 win over Aljaz Bedene of Slovenia, while Guido Pella of Argentina defeated Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain 7-6 (6), 6-4 to advance. LAS VEGAS --?Jimmie Johnsons wife didnt accompany him for the initial days of his Las Vegas championship celebration week. Chani is living up to a prior commitment to work the booth for her gallery at the Art Basel convention in Miami. But Johnson didnt go to Las Vegas alone. He brought along his two daughters: Lydia, age 3, and Genevieve, 6. It was the first time he could truly celebrate with his kids, considering his last championship came in 2013.Before anyone gets the impression that Johnsons championship celebration -- his record-tying seventh -- will become more mature and less raucous than those of his past, Johnson shot down any idea of that possibility. He will be the doting dad and professionally handle his championship duties during the day, but he expects to wake up Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning with a head-pounding headache. The kids nor the media will have anything to do with it.The plans are not to be more mellow, Johnson said Wednesday about his celebration plans in Las Vegas. You dont know when these are going to happen. Obviously its such a special won with seven. As long as we dont have a golf cart around or anything, it should be a good time.Shortly after delivering that quip, Johnson (who once fell off the top of a golf cart while riding on the roof) spoke to a group of attendees at the SportsBusiness Journals Motorsports Marketing Forum, talking about his seventh championship and his brand. He plans to make sure the seventh title celebration is one he remembers; he has tied Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt for the number of titles. Each year, Johnson makes sure that the Wednesday night gathering with his crew is a special one.I make sure to catch the crew guys when they get in that first night -- that is when all the fun stories come from, the 41-year-old Johnson said. Well jump into some fun [Wednesday night] with them.Outside of that, its just managing no sleep. Im getting older and I dont recover so quickly.Johnson knows all the duties during the championship week. He knows his priorities, and its not speaking to a bunch of people in coats and ties or doing various media interviews. Hes gracious, as always, and honest and reflective and relaxed while trying to enjoy the moment.I insisted on having the kids come with me (before my wife came Wednesday night) -- I just wanted more opportunities to savor it and have fun, Johnson said. Im just trying to enjoy these days here because they go by so quickly and theyre framed in by some early mornings and a lot of stuff.Im trying to savor it. ... The girls are so excited to wear their pretty dresses. They wore some nice outfits today [for photos] and they were just dancing around excited about it.The girls wont stay for the entire ceremony Friday night.Hopefully their behavior is good enough tthey can come on stage briefly, Johnson said.dddddddddddd They will be bribed with ice cream and candy to make it, of course.Johnson will be joined on stage by his team owner Rick Hendrick and crew chief Chad Knaus. While it will be nearly two weeks after earning the championship, Johnson admits he and Knaus havent really gone over their race-winning, title-clinching performance in the season finale Nov. 20 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. We havent discussed the end of 16 or 2017 [plans] at all, Johnson said. I have a couple of weeks before we head [on vacation], so I guess once we get back from here [well do it].I know its all still taking place. When I was at the shop for the victory bell (to ring it this week), everybodys wide-open running in all directions getting stuff done. But Johnson has shown some focus on starting the quest for an eighth title. He ran eight miles last Friday and posted the comment And so it begins on the map of his run on the fitness app he uses.Wouldnt it be easier for him to just run 8-minute miles instead of a pace of 7:24 and make that his way of focusing on an eighth title? My cruising pace has gotten down to 7:10, 7:15 [a mile], Johnson said proudly. Im so excited about that.As far as his training goes, Johnson had encouraged some friends to do a half-marathon Dec. 10 in North Carolina, but he doesnt think he has trained enough in the week since the championship.Apparently, running 13.1 miles for fun is not an option when there is a bib and a timing chip involved.Im too competitive, Johnson said. I probably can. I dont know. Well see. In my head, Im not going. But the buddies I talked into training, theyre like, Dude, you talked us into going. Youre going to come with us. Will they be able to dare Johnson into doing something against his grain, to run a race hes not totally prepared to run? It sounds like Johnson could be coaxed into it.Johnson doesnt typically need coaxing to go out on a limb. When he won his first Cup title in 2006, he climbed a light pole at the intersection of 48th Street and 1st Avenue in New York City -- much to the chagrin of his representatives, who were worried he might get in trouble.Looking to do the same last week in the city at the much busier corner of 48th and 7th, Johnson came up short -- he instead just took a selfie while standing at the corner.Johnson insists hes not mellowing with age. There was nowhere to climb, Johnson said. There was a bunch of construction going on. I think I tried and I couldnt get the selfie angle. ... It just didnt work out. There just was nothing to hang on to.Im still willing to do a lot of dumb things, for sure. I havent been able to grow up yet. ' ' '
