Latvia will not send its skeleton athletes to this seasons world championships in Sochi, the first such announcement by any national team in response to the Russian doping scandal. The world championships for bobsled and skeleton are scheduled to be held on the 2014 Olympic track Feb. 13-26. A number of athletes, including some past Olympic medalists from the U.S. and Britain, have said in recent weeks that they will consider skipping worlds unless officials move the event out of Russia. But no other national team had taken such an official stance, until Sunday.Enough is enough, the Latvian skeleton team said in a statement. If worlds are going to be moved out of Sochi, a decision by the International Bobsled and Skeleton Federation would have to come quickly. The IBSF said it will act promptly and decisively after World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLarens latest report detailing the scope of the doping program in Russia was released on Friday.U.S. officials have said they will support any American athlete who chooses not to race in Sochi.Among the concerns some sliders have expressed about going back to Russia is a fear that food and beverage supplies could be tampered with and that athletes could unknowingly ingest a banned substance. If they were subsequently tested and that test came back positive, they would likely be ineligible to compete in the 2018 Olympics. The Russians are scheduled to compete this weekend in a World Cup bobsled and skeleton competition in Lake Placid, New York, as are sliders from most other nations on the circuit.I want to compete in a World Championships thats drug free and safe for all, U.S. womens bobsled pilot Elana Meyers Taylor said on Twitter. Sochi, Russia, is not an option. The British Bobsled and Skeleton Federation is among those taking a wait-and-see approach for now, not making any decisions until the IBSF decides whether worlds should be moved.I hope too that they will want to join the fight, said Lizzy Yarnold, the Olympic womens skeleton gold medalist from Britain.Latvia has seven Winter Olympic medals in its history -- all of them in sliding sports. The Latvian team is led by Martins Dukurs, the seven-time defending World Cup overall champion who has gotten silver medals at the past two Olympics. At the Sochi Games in 2014, Dukurs entered as a gold-medal favorite but was beaten by Russias Aleksandr Tretyakov.McLarens report released on Friday said that Russians who won 15 medals in Sochi had their drug-testing samples tampered with, including two athletes who won four gold medals. McLarens report did not include names. While our international federation is still going to read and digest the report, we will do what we can, the Latvian skeleton team wrote. We will be glad to race in World Championships at any track of the world, but we are not participating in World Championships in Sochi, Russia -- a place where Olympic spirit was stolen in 2014. Ken Boyer .Y. -- Injured Buffalo Sabres forward Marcus Foligno did not practice with the team Monday and head coach Ron Rolston said its unlikely hell play in Wednesdays season opener in Detroit. A knee to the thigh might have stung him the most, but his sixth straight double-double made up for the brief burst of pain. Lane Thomas .Y. -- Leading 3-0 with only 11:25 left, the Colorado Avalanche committed a seemingly meaningless penalty to give the New York Islanders a power play. Harrison Bader .ca! Hi Kerry, Its another day and here we are looking at another dubious hit to the head. In this case Blue Jackets forward Brandon Dubinsky elbowed Saku Koivu in the head about a second after he dished off the puck to a teammate, knocking him unconscious. Sources revealed Wednesday that Clemsons Deshaun Watson?has taken out?two insurance policies against a career-ending injury: a $5 million total disability policy and a $5 million loss of value policy. The reality is, players rarely end up receiving a payout, even after theyve sustained an injury. And when they do get paid, its still unclear whether the IRS has dibs on a cut of the money.Heres a primer on how these policies work:What is a total disability policy? It protects a player should he become unable to play football again because of an injury. This covers an injury on or off the field, usually from the time a player signs the policy until the following football season. The only reason something wouldnt be covered is if theres a pre-existing injury; the insurer might specify in the policy that the player would not be covered if the same injury occurs again.A player can attempt to come back from an injury and still collect, but in general, policies wont pay out if hes able to play in more than four games following the injury.A player cant just decide that he cant play. A doctor, sometimes one from the players side and one from the insurers side, must agree that is the case. What is a loss of value policy? It is an attachment to the disability policy. It projects where a player is supposed to go in the draft and then provides for a payment up to a specific amount, should the player fall in the draft order because of an injury.A player can get paid a small amount if he doesnt slip far, or the whole amount, as Ifo Ekpre-Olomu received when he was projected to be a first-round pick and an injury caused him to slip to the seventh round. Someone who didnt collect in this years draft was Myles Jack, who fell to the 36th overall pick, but only would have started to collect money at Pick 45.The loss of value must be associated with an injury. Theres no coverage for falling in the draft due to other issues. ?What do these pollicies cost?A rule of thumb is about $10,000 for every $1 million in coverage.dddddddddddd Previously, the NCAA helped secure a loan for the premium, which would be paid by the players family, but a couple of years ago, that changed when it was discovered that schools were allowed to take out the policies themselves.Sources said that Clemson took out a policy for Watson through International Specialty Insurance, which has established itself as the leader in the space, especially when it comes to offering loss of value. How often do players collect? Not too often on total disability. It has happened only a handful of times in the past 15 years. Loss of value collection has occurred more often. Players who have collected over the years include Ekpre-Olomu and Jaylon Smith, who will collect a lump sum of $900,000 after slipping in this years draft. In March 2015, USC wide receiver Marqise Lee sued his insurer, Lloyds of London, when he slipped in the 2014 draft, claiming he was owed $4.5 million. But Lloyds argued that at the time he signed his policy, Le
