Ron Dennis has stepped down from his role as McLaren chairman and chief executive following a board meeting at the Woking team. As of this afternoon Ron Dennis no longer holds the position of Chief Executive Officer of McLaren Technology Group, the team confirmed. The announcement follows a bitter boardroom row with Mansour Ojjeh, who, like Dennis, owns 25% of McLaren, and Mumtalakat, the Bahraini sovereign wealth fund, who own the remaining 50%. I am disappointed that the representatives of TAG and Mumtalakat, the other main shareholders in McLaren, have forced through this decision to place me on gardening leave, despite the strong warnings from the rest of the management team about the potential consequences of their actions on the business, Dennis said. The grounds they have stated are entirely spurious; my management style is the same as it has always been and is one that has enabled McLaren to become an automotive and technology group that has won 20 Formula One world championships and grown into an £850m a year business.Sky News Report: Ousting Ron Dennis could jeopardise commercial deals worth £160mDennis is a legendary figure in Formula 1 and synonymous with the McLaren outfit he guided to serial success during the 1980s and 1990s. However, the team have fallen on fallow times since the turn of the century and have won just one title, Lewis Hamiltons 2008 Drivers World Championship.Combative, meticulous and hugely respected, Dennis could also be a divisive figure inside the sport. Two years after the Spygate scandal which resulted in McLaren being fined $100m, Dennis stood down as team principal in 2009 but returned in place of Martin Whitmarsh in 2014.Ultimately it has become clear to me through this process that neither AG nor Mumtalakat share my vision for McLaren and its true growth potential, added Dennis. But my first concern is to the business I have built and to its 3,500 employees. The chequered flag for Mr McLaren?Dennis, 69, is the architect of the modern McLaren and during his tenure as team principal, between 1981 and 2009, won 10 Drivers and seven Constructors Championships. He is also credited for mentoring Lewis Hamiltons arrival in F1. After handing over the reins to Whitmarsh following Hamiltons 2008 title win, Dennis returned as CEO in 2014 and oversaw a management restructure which resulted in the departure of his successor. He has also overseen the successful launch of a sportscar arm and the diversification of McLaren into a wider technology company. He now plans to launch a new technology investment fund once his departure from McLaren is completed.I intend to launch a new technology investment fund once my contractual commitments with McLaren expire, Dennis statement continued. This will capitalise on my expertise, my financial resources, together with external investment to pursue the many commercial opportunities I have been offered in recent years but have been unable to take up while being so committed to the existing business. Who - and what - now for McLaren?Whitmarsh, Ross Brawn and marketing guru Zak Brown have been touted as potential replacements for Dennis. But the team already have Eric Boullier in position as team principal while Jost Capito, the former director of motorsport at Volkswagen, started work as the teams chief executive officer in September.Prior to joining McLaren two years ago, Boullier was team boss at Renault, then known as Lotus, where he forged a successful working relationship with James Allison. Followings Allison exit from Ferrari earlier this season, speculation has surfaced in recent weeks the pair could be reunited at McLaren.McLaren Technology Group is now in the process of seeking a new Chief Executive Officer, McLaren stated on Tuesday evening. Until such an appointment has been made, the company will be run on an interim basis by an Executive Committee comprising the Groups majority shareholders, in close collaboration with the Board of Directors and the senior management team. The full statement from McLaren on Ron Dennis exitDont miss the F1 Reports Brazilian GP review on Sky Sports F1 on Wednesday at 8.30pm Also See: McLaren reject takeover bid The Formula 1 Gossip column Cheap Nike Air Max 95 All Gold . -- Bryant McKinnie came out of his stance and lowered his shoulder into a practice squad player, causing a crisp thud to reverberate in the Miami Dolphins practice bubble. SEATTLE -- Certainly there will be excitement for Chris Ash leading Rutgers onto the field Saturday for the first time as a head coach.Yet Ash doesnt expect that to be the dominant emotion when the Scarlet Knights face No. 14 Washington to open the season.Exciting, I guess, would be a word that a lot of people would assume I would be. But its challenging, Ash said. And just trying to make sure we cross every `T and dot every `I. We just continue to coach these guys on every single detail as we continue to move forward.Undoubtedly, the opponent Ash faces to begin his first season as a head coach adds to that challenge. The Huskies have spent the offseason hearing all the talk about this being the year they jump from being a .500 program and back into the elite of the Pac-12, potentially contending for a conference title and Rose Bowl berth. Its the kind of gaudy expectations Washington coach Chris Petersen has wanted to tamp down but he understands its part of growing the Huskies program into a contender again. The parity, I think thats one of the beauties of college football. And to start the season with all those unknowns, that just evens things out, Petersen said. So this is going to be a tough, good, hard opening test for this team to see, OK, can we play one play at a time and put that play behind us and go.Here are other things to watch when the Huskies and Scarlet Knights meet for the first time.ENCORE, ENCORE: If Washington is to take the next step to the top of the Pac-12, it cant afford any sophomore slumps by quarterback Jake Browning or running back Myles Gaskin. Both were stars at times during their freshmen seasons, although Gaskin was more consistent than Browning. Gaskin rushed for 1,302 yards and 14 touchdowns, while Browning threw for 2,955 yards and 16 TDs.Browning has said his goal for this season is to improve on deep throws. The return of speedy wide receiver John Ross III from a knee injury that cost him the entire 2015 season should help.IN CHARGE: Quartterback Chris Lavino started 11 of 12 games last season for Rutgers but had to beat out TCU transfer Zach Allen for the starting job this season as the Scarlet Knights transition to more of a spread offense.ddddddddddddLavino completed 61 percent of his passes last season but threw for just 16 touchdowns and had 12 interceptions. He does have an experienced group of wide receivers with three of his top four pass catchers back from last season.PURPLE HAZE: Washington has the best secondary in the Pac-12, led by Budda Baker and Kevin King. It may have the best middle linebacker in the conference in junior Azeem Victor. There is little doubt the Huskies defense will be good. But can it be as good as last year when the Huskies led the conference by allowing just 18.8 points per game? Much of that will be determined by Washingtons pass rush and the ability to replace Travis Feeney and Cory Littleton, who combined for 14 sacks and 28 + tackles for loss last season. Watch for Joe Mathis to try to fill some of that void as a rush defensive end.IN THE MIDDLE: Defensive tackle Darius Hamilton was an honorable mention all-Big Ten selection in 2014 before missing 11 of 12 games last season due to a lower body injury. He was granted a medical redshirt and his return is a boost for Rutgers defensive line. Ash said that coaches will need to watch the number of plays Hamilton is in for.Hes going to start the game, and hes going to play as much as his body allows him to play, Ash said.SOUND THE SIREN: In four of its final six games last season, Washington topped the 40-point mark. Not all those points were scored by the offense as Washington had four special teams or defensive touchdowns in those four victories. But it was a sign of the Huskies offensive potency, which they hope can carry into this season.---AP college football website: www.collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '
