With the frenzy of the free agent signing period far behind, there are still some prominent names looking to land an NHL home for next season. Leading the pack is veteran winger Jaromir Jagr, coming off a one-year, $4.5 million deal he signed with the Dallas Stars last season. The Stars dealt Jagr to the Bruins prior to the trade deadline and he helped Boston reach the Stanley Cup Final. The veteran forward posted 16 goals and 35 points in 45 games played last season, adding 10 assists in 22 playoff appearances for the Bruins. Jagrs agent Petr Svoboda said last week that a few teams were interested in signing the future Hall of Famer, but alls been quiet since then. Also on the market is Brenden Morrow, who scored 12 goals and 13 assists in 44 games with the Penguins and Stars last season. He was traded to Pittsburgh prior to the trade deadline and jhelped lead the Penguins to the Eastern Conference Final. The 13-year veteran has scored 249 goals and 293 assists in 850 career games. Mikhail Grabovski, who was bought out by the Toronto Maple Leafs last week, is also waiting to be signed. He had four years remaining on his $27.5-million contract before being let go by the Leafs and struggled this season, recording just nine goals and seven assists in 48 games. Then there were Fishers comments about being unaware that Snead, his GM the past five years, had also signed an extension, which reportedly rubbed people in the organization the wrong way.Demoff said the Rams gave Fisher and Snead extensions because they didnt want them to go into the first season of a relocation with lame-duck status. The extensions were agreed to in the summer, but it took a bit longer for the paperwork to get worked out. Then the season started, and Demoff didnt want to announce the extensions because they could have created what he called a distraction.Maybe that was a mistake on my part, Demoff said.As the season went on, the Rams faced increasing pressure from the outside to make a change at coach.I think it would be easy to say that played into it, Demoff said. I think what that overlooks is the fact that all of that is generated off the won-loss record. And when you look at the fans, when you look at anything thats happened these past few weeks, everybodys been frustrated about losing eight out of nine and having some tough losses.
