Jonny Lomax is determined to build on his England experience as he prepares to kick on with his injury-hit career. The 26-year-old St Helens full-back was one of the few players to emerge with credit from Englands disappointing Four Nations campaign and was arguably their best player in Sundays 36-18 defeat by Australia.Lomax missed the first 11 weeks of the 2016 Super League season after undergoing a second knee reconstruction but played a major role in Saints surge in the second half of the year to press his claims for an international call-up in the absence of Sam Tomkins and Zak Hardaker. Jenna Brooks brings you all the latest rugby league news Recommended to new national coach Wayne Bennett by his former club boss Nathan Brown, Lomax made his Test debut in Englands warm-up match against France in Avignon and kept his spot for all three matches in the Four Nations Series. Bennett worlds best coach Kevin Brown insists Wayne Bennett is still the man to turn England into world-beaters Ill take positives from the experience, out of the whole year to be honest, said Lomax. If someone had given me this opportunity in January, Id have bitten their hands off with the past few years that Ive gone through. So I think this experience and what I have learnt will stand me in good stead, it can only improve me as a player. Its obviously results-based so I was gutted with the way Sundays game turned out. We were desperate for the win.We just went through a period when we didnt get our hands on the ball and we bombed a few opportunities. Against a team of Australias pedigree, youve got to be clinical. They were and we werent at times. England failed to reach the Four Nations final after a double-scores defeat against Australia Englands performances, which were in stark contrast to Scotlands impressive Four Nations debut culminating in an 18-18 draw with holders New Zealand in Workington last Friday, suggested they have gone backwards over the past 12 months but Lomax says it is too easy to draw that conclusion.People are entitled to their opinion but you could also look at Friday nights result, he said. Every player in the competition is a great player and every team in the competition is a great team. "Were going to do a thorough review of everything in the organization. Five years ago we reset. Its time to do it again," said Gillis as he answered questions on lineup changes and head coach Alain Vigneaults future. "There are a couple of significant changes we need to make to get players we need to compete." When asked if goaltender Roberto Luongo would be a member of the team next season, Gillis said it would be, "unlikely." As far as other changes are concerned, Gillis is already aware of the direction he needs to take his roster moves. "If you take Cory as a No. 1 goaltender, hes at the prime of his career; our defence is at their prime," said Gillis. "We need to get younger. "Weve tried offer sheets and trades at deadline. Were going to have to find a bold move." Luongo started the first two games of the series in place of injured keeper Cory Schneideer and believes that his time as the No.dddddddddddd 1 choice for the Canucks is over. "Whats happened over the last two years suggests that maybe its not my time to be the starter here anymore," said Luongo on Thursday. Luongo added that Schneider was hard pressed to find success trying to get back into the flow of the series after missing the opening games. "Cory was put in a tough spot being asked to play without much practice time after his groin injury," said Luongo. As for his future, Luongo knows he might have to move to another team to get his opportunity. "I still have a lot to give. If its here or elsewhere, that remains to be seen," he said. Luongo does, however, think his place is on the ice and not on the bench. "My main goal is to be a starter, I want to play, he said. "At the end of the day, thats what I want." Schneider, for his part, took some of the blame for the two games the team lost while he was in net. "I didnt get the job done," he said. "I didnt play well enough." Schneider also confirmed that it was a groin injury that forced him out of the first two games of the series. ' ' '
