PHOENIX -- Without getting a hit, the Arizona Diamondbacks Brandon Drury has delivered his team two 11th-inning wins in three nights. Two nights after a game-winning sacrifice fly, the youngster scored the winner on a wild pitch with two outs in the 11th Friday night in the Diamondbacks 4-3 win over the Cincinnati Reds. After the Diamondbacks gave up a 2-1 lead in the ninth and then rallied to tie it in the 10th, Drury doubled with one out in the 11th off Blake Wood (5-3) and took third on a groundout. A walk brought up Jean Segura, and Woods first pitch bounced in front of home plate and went all the way to the backstop.Drury slid head-first across home plate for the win.You have to be ready for a ball in the dirt and any time it goes to the backstop, youve got to score on that play, Drury said. Anytime you pick your teammates up and help the team to win, thats a really good feeling all the way around.Wood explained his errant toss.Trying to throw a fastball down in the zone and threw it a little too far down. That was it, he said.Edwin Escobar (1-2) earned his first career major-league win with a scoreless inning. But the Diamondbacks blew a chance to win before extra innings and trailed in the 10th.A.J. Pollock, playing his first game in the majors this season after breaking his elbow in spring training, drove in the tying run for Arizona in the bottom of the 10th.The Diamondbacks were down 3-2 when pinch-hitter Phil Gosselin drew a leadoff walk, took second on a wild pitch and went to third on a balk by Raisel Iglesias. Pollock hit a grounder and Gosselin beat the throw home.Ramon Cabreras sacrifice fly in the top of the 10th drove in Scott Schebler, putting the Reds ahead 3-2.The Reds had runners on second and third base with one out after reliever Enrique Burgos balked. Cabrera hit a shallow fly ball to right field and Yasmany Tomas caught it and threw to third base for a double play, but Schebler crossed the plate in time.Cincinnati tied it at 2 in the ninth. Daniel Hudson got the first two outs, but singles by pinch-hitter Ivan DeJesus Jr., Billy Hamilton and Jose Peraza brought home a run.It slipped away from us. It was a game that was there for us to win, Reds manager Bryan Price said. We were able to take the lead and then some things kind of fell sideways on us there.Reds starter Brandon Finnegan struck out a career- high 12. He allowed only two runs on three hits and two walks over six innings.Rickie Weeks Jr. homered and tripled for Arizona.Braden Shipley overcame some control issues and pitched four-hit ball for seven innings, giving up a run with four walks and a strikeout.Exciting finish, we will take it anyway we can get it, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. A.J.S DAYPollock started in center field, batted second and struck out swinging at an offspeed pitch in his first at-bat, soon after getting a nice ovation from fans at Chase Field as he walked up to the plate.Pollock struck out twice on an 0-for-5 night, but he made a running catch.I felt good out there. Physically it is not an issue anymore, Pollock said of his elbow. Its good to be out there with the team and to get the win, its huge. Its like opening day for me. You have to get all of the first stuff out of the way.TRAINERS ROOMReds: C Tucker Barnhart was scratched from the original lineup with a sore right hand and replaced by Cabrera.Diamondbacks: OF David Peralta was transferred to the 60-day disabled list with a right wrist injury.UP NEXTReds: RHP Anthony DeSclafani (7-2) will make his third career appearance against the Diamondbacks, the second at Chase Field.Diamondbacks: RHP Zack Godley (4-2) has wins in each of his two career appearances against the Reds, though hes logged a 5.79 ERA from those games. Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly wants the Fighting Irish to trust themselves against Navy in their game in Jacksonville, Florida.Kelly believes indecisiveness has hurt the Irish (3-5) in a variety of ways. He says at times players havent trusted their talents, what theyve been taught and sometimes havent trusted teammates. So we talk about that openly as really a piece that still needs to grow within our football team. Some of that is just inexperienced players that have to trust in those three areas, and we just have to continue to work on those and be pretty transparent in talking about those things on a day-to-day basis, he said.Kelly, who may have set the tone when he couldnt decide on a starting quarterback to begin the season, pointed to the poor play on special teams against Miami. C.J. Sanders failed to run up and catch a punt that bounced and led to Miamis first touchdown.Hes a talented football player and he needs to trust his talents, Kelly said. When you trust your talents, you wont be indecisive. Youll go up and get that football, and you wont suffer the consequences -- and our team wont suffer the consequences. The Irish head into the annual game with a losing record for the first time since 2007, when Navy won 46-44 in triple overtime to end Notre Dames NCAA-record winning streak against the Midshipmen at 43 games. The Irish had 1-7 record heading into that game. Navy coach Ken Niumatalolo believes the Irish are better than their record. Not one of their better years, but theyre still Notre Dame and still really good, he said. Its going to be a tough game for us.The Midshipmen (5-2) were ranked No. 22 until losing 52-45 to South Florida , although they rallied back from a 42-14 deficit. Niumatalolo hopes the Midshipmen can rebound like they did following a 28-14 loss to Air Force on Saturday, when they shocked then sixth-ranked Houston 46-40.We tell them the same thing; whether you win or lose youve got to move on.dddddddddddd Hopefully, theyll bounce back, he said.Other things to know about the Notre Dame-Navy:LOSING RECORD: Notre Dame is 8-5 all-time vs. Navy when it has a losing record and 3-4 when it has a losing record and the Midshipmen have a winning record.SCORING DROUGHTS: Opponents have gone on scoring binges against the Irish. Texas scored 17 straight points, Michigan State 36, Duke 21, Stanford 17 and Miami 27. Kelly said the key to stopping such runs is a consistent running game.Thats why we run hot and cold at times offensively, because we havent established the consistency at running the football, he said.THIRD-DOWN CONVERSIONS: South Florida converted on its first 12 third-down chances against Navy. Were looking at some things schematically, personnel-wise, things we can do to improve on that, Niumatalolo said. Tackling in the open field is definitely an issue.Navy is the seventh worst team in the nation on stopping opponents on third down, succeeding only 48.1 percent of the time. The Irish offense ranks 96th on third down conversions, succeeding on 36 percent of their chances.CHANGE OF VENUE: Jacksonville is the eighth American city besides South Bend where Notre Dame has faced Navy. Its played the Midshipmen in Baltimore (22 times), Chicago (1), Cleveland (11), East Rutherford, New Jersey (12), Landover, Maryland (1), Orlando (3) and Philadelphia (3). The two teams also have played twice in Dublin, Ireland. In 2018, they will play in San Diego and in 2020 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford . Theyve never played in Annapolis.HOMEWARD BOUND: Thirteen Navy players and 11 on Notre Dame are from Florida.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org ' ' '
