Henrik Stenson has labelled 2016 as the best year of his career so far after clinching a second Race to Dubai title in four seasons. Stenson began the week 299,675 points ahead of Danny Willett and made certain of ending the year as European No 1 with a closing 65 matched by defending champion Rory McIlroy. The Swede finished tied-ninth, five stokes adrift of tournament winner Matt Fitzpatrick, to cap a special year and secure his first Race to Dubai title since 2013. Stenson mixed eight birdies with a sole blemish Im very pleased to get my name on this trophy once again, Stenson told Sky Sports. Its been a great year, the best year of my career.Ive always thought it was going to be hard to top 2013, but I think Ive done that this year. Maybe not to the level of golf over six months, but certainly with the highlights of winning The Open, [winning silver at] the Olympics and managing to win The Race to Dubai again. Stenson played alongside McIlroy during the final round I always knew it was going to be a tough race to finish it off here in The Final Series. Luckily for me, I didnt really win it this week here in Dubai or last week in South Africa. Dubai delight for Fitzpatrick Matt Fitzpatrick claims one-shot win at DP World Tour Championship I knew I needed one really good week, and I managed to knock that one out early at HSBC. Its been more of a cruise and seeing what the other guys do. It hasnt been quite good enough for what we needed to do. Willett posted a one-under 70 on Sunday Ill be a bit disappointed I would have thought for a bit, but you then kind of look at what youve done and then try and move forward. I think the body and mind need a bit of a rest, and hopefully we can come out fresh around a golf course that I quite like at Hong Kong and then have a good four or five week break over Christmas. PHILADELPHIA -- The rest of the 2016 season will be spent evaluating what the future may hold for the Philadelphia Phillies. And that makes sense for a team in the waning moments of another losing season. On Monday night, with a 6-2 decision over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Phillies surpassed their win total from 2015 by earning their 64th victory of the season.I never thought Id be happy to get a 64th win, Philadelphia manager Pete Mackanin said, but it makes me happy at this point. What also made him happy Monday night was the play of rookie outfielder Roman Quinn, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and a stolen base -- all firsts for his two-game-old career. Quinn and catcher Jorge Alfaro, both called up Sunday from Double-A Reading, will get a chance to showcase themselves for the future. Both 23-year-olds are among the teams top prospects.Alfaro, who pinch-hit and had an infield single in his debut Monday, likely will get his first start behind the plate Tuesday night when the the Pirates and Phillies continue their four-game series.Theyre not going to be able to establish themselves, but theyre going to really make a good first impression and thats the best they can do, Mackanin said of Alfaro and Quinn.Should Alfaro get the start Tuesday, he would be catching right-hander Alec Asher (1-0, 0.00 ERA), who pitched well in his first major league start of the year Thursday in Washington.Asher, back after serving an 80-game suspension for the use of performance-enhancing drugs, tossed six scoreless innings against the Nattionals, yielding just two hits and one walk.ddddddddddddWhile Asher is looking to make his case to be in the teams long-term plans, his Tuesday mound opponent has already succeeded on that count.Right-hander Ivan Nova (12-6, 4.13 ERA) has been extremely effective since joining the Pirates last month, even though the team has been plummeting. In seven starts, since he was acquired from the New York Yankees, Nova is 5-0 with a 2.53 ERA and 0.93 walks-and-hits-per-inning-pitched ratio. His last time out, he threw a complete-game six-hitter in a 4-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday.Nova has made one career start against Philadelphia, when he pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings in a win for the Yankees last year. The loss Monday knocked Pittsburgh (69-73) six games back of the final wild-card spot in the National League. The Pirates had a 67-61 record and were a half-games back of the final wild-card spot through Aug. 28, but a 2-12 stretch has all but eliminated them from contention. If we can flip a switch and fix it, we certainly would, general manager Neal Huntington said recently, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. But every time we seem like were falling in the wrong direction, we seem to right ourselves. Every time we right ourselves, we seem to take a misstep. Weve been the streakiest team in baseball this year, and our goal is to spend some time figuring out how we become more consistent. ' ' '
