MIAMI -- Left-hander Wei-Yin Chen went on the 15-day disabled list Sunday because of a sprained elbow, intensifying the Miami Marlins need for rotation help, and they may have found some in a 3-0 loss to the New York Mets.Jose Urena allowed only one run in six innings, and with a 1.54 ERA in two starts this year after being recalled from Triple-A New Orleans, he could become a fixture in the rotation. He has gone out two times in a row and kept the ball down, and done a good job for us and kept us in those games, manager Don Mattingly said. You have to look at him as a guy who at this point keeps getting the ball.Right-hander Jarred Cosart will be recalled from New Orleans to start Monday against the Philadelphia Phillies in place of Chen, who complained of elbow soreness after his most recent start. We dont feel like its anything crazy, but we also want to be cautious, Mattingly said.Chen signed an $80 million, five-year deal with the Marlins last offseason. He is 5-4 with a 4.99 ERA, and despite pitching in spacious Marlins Park, he has allowed 20 home runs in 19 starts. The previously undisclosed elbow issue may have contributed to the left-handers troubles. He gave up 11 hits and four runs in 5 1/3 innings in his most recent start, taking the loss against the Phillies.A strong lineup and bullpen has put the Marlins in contention for a playoff spot, but aside from ace Jose Fernandez, their starters are 21-24. Theyll likely redouble efforts to acquire a starter before the trade deadline, but at least the 25-year-old Urena has surfaced as potential long-term help.Against New York, Urena (1-2) didnt walk a batter and allowed only four hits, the most costly being a two-out RBI triple by Jose Reyes in the third inning.Urena, whose career record is 2-7, said hes more confident about his latest opportunity in the majors.I feel a little bit different and more focused, he said. Ive been working trying to keep the ball down and be aggressive. Im trying to take advantage of this.Steven Matz pitched six innings for his first win since May to help the Mets take the rubber game of the series. Matz (8-6) allowed four hits, walked two and struck out six.Thats probably the best Ive seen him, Mattingly said. His stuff was good. He got his off-speed over and had a good fastball. The Mets returned home trailing second-place Miami by half a game in the NL East.Matz, who beat the Marlins for the first time in four career starts, retired the side in order only once but didnt allow any extra-base hits. He protected a 1-0 lead by retiring Giancarlo Stanton on a groundout to strand two runners and end the fifth.Three relievers completed a five-hitter for the Mets ninth shutout. Jeurys Familiar pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 51st consecutive save, tied for the third-longest in major league history. He has 35 saves this year, most in the majors.A wild pitch on a strikeout helped the Mets in the eighth, when Alejandro De Aza reached that way to lead off. New York went on to score two runs in the inning. The two hurt us, Mattingly said. If you keep that a one-run game, you can put a little more pressure on. Thats the inning that kind of gets us.SUZUKI UPDATEThe Marlins Ichiro Suzuki, who didnt start in the series, struck out as a pinch hitter in the seventh and remained four hits shy of 3,000.UP NEXTCosart will start Monday against RHP Jeremy Hellickson (7-7, 3.84). Cosart is 0-1 with a 7.98 ERA in three starts this year for Miami, and 3-4 with a 4.09 ERA in 10 starts for Triple-A New Orleans.Hes the guy right now throwing the ball better than anybody else down there, Mattingly said. He has three goals and five assists through 36 games with the Leafs this season. PHOENIX -- Randall Delgado tried almost too hard to make Arizonas rotation in spring training, tossing out mechanics as he overthrew. A stint in the minors did wonders for the young right-hander, giving him the strike-throwing foundation thats allowed him to pitch so well since being called up. Pounding the strike zone with his fastball and getting San Diegos hitters to chase his changeup, Delgado tossed a three-hitter for his first career shutout and the Diamondbacks pounded out 17 hits in a 10-0 rout over the Padres on Friday night. "This is what hes been building up toward," Diamondbacks manager Kirk Gibson said. The Diamondbacks gave Delgado plenty of support, roughing up Eric Stults (8-9) with six runs the first three innings and seven extra-base hits. Aaron Hill had a pair of run-scoring doubles before leaving with a tight right hamstring, A.J. Pollock added a two-run single and Martin Prado had two of Arizonas six doubles. Delgado (3-3) helped himself by adding a pair of singles, becoming the first Arizona pitcher with a shutout and a multihit game since Randy Johnson on Sept. 14, 2003, against Colorado. "I thought he pitched really well tonight," Padres third baseman Chase Headley said. "They beat us in every aspect tonight and sometimes that happens." One of the top pitching prospects in baseball, Delgado arrived in Arizona with Prado last year in a six-player deal that sent outfielder Justin Upton and infielder Chris Johnson to Atlanta. Delgado failed to make Arizonas rotation out of spring training and opened the season at Triple-A Reno, where he worked on his mechanics and his strike-throwing mentality. Since being called up in June, the 23-year-old Panamanian has been a solid addition to Arizonas staff, allowed three earned runs in all eight starts. Delgado worked 5 2-3 scoreless innings his last start, a 3-1 win over San Francisco, and was even better against the Padres. Everth Cabrera lined his first pitch of the game for a single, but the right-hander retired nine straight until Nick Hundleys leadoff double in the fourth. Delgado stranded him at second and retired 10 straight before walking Yonder Alonso with one out in the seventh. Right fielder Gerardo Parra made a spectacular catch against the fence to rob Will Venable of a hit to end the seventh andd shortstop Didi Gregorious made a diving grab for the games final out, helping Delgado extend his scoreless streak to 14 2-3 innings.dddddddddddd Delgado struck out three, walked one and threw 70 strikes in 100 pitches for his first complete game in the majors. "This is a key for the pitchers, throw a lot of strikes, try to be ahead in the count," Delgado said. "That helped so much today. I was just trying to keep the ball down, throw a strike and see what happens after that." Stults pitched well his previous three starts, allowing five earned runs in 21 innings, and tossed a two-hit shutout his last start against Arizona on June 14. The Diamondbacks roughed up the left-hander right away Friday. Hill drove in a run with a double in the first inning, then scored on Prados run-scoring single. In the second inning, Cliff Pennington scored from first when Hundley, San Diegos catcher, threw wildly to first on Delgados sacrifice bunt and Hill followed with a second RBI double before leaving for precautionary reasons. The Diamondbacks scored two runs again in the third inning, on Wil Nieves run-scoring through a drawn-in infield and an RBI double by Pennington that made it 6-0. Ross added a run-scoring single in the fourth inning off Stults, who allowed seven runs -- five earned -- on 11 hits and struck out five. "I didnt give us a chance to win from the start," said Stults, winless his last five road starts. "The first inning to give them the two runs, then in the second inning to not come out and give us a shut-down inning, that was tough." Ross led off the seventh inning by hitting Colt Hynes up-in-the-zone 0-2 pitch off the foul pole in left for his sixth homer and Pollock made it 10-0 with his two-run single. By then, Delgado was already rolling to his best outing in the majors. NOTES: Arizona C Miguel Montero missed his fourth straight game with a stiff back and is still day to day. ...
