TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- Alabama and Auburn dispatched their usual pre-Iron Bowl FCS opponents as expected. Now, the top-ranked Crimson Tide and No. 16 Auburn can focus on what really matters in this state: The Iron Bowl. `Bama has moved on from a lackluster performance against Chattanooga (still a 31-3 victory), and the Tigers 55-0 win over Alabama A&M was hardly indicative of what theyll face Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium.Ditto for Alabama, which shouldnt have any issues getting up for this one.Its pretty easy because its a rivalry game, the biggest one of the year, you could say, Tide defensive lineman Dalvin Tomlinson said. I still feel like some of my teammates who were here when we lost to Auburn a couple of years ago still feel the pain of losing to them. Its pretty easy to focus up just because we dont want to have that feeling again.Alabama (11-0, 7-0 Southeastern Conference, No. 1 CFP) has won the past two meetings and 23 games in a row. Auburn (8-3, 5-2) No. 15) is battling injuries to quarterback Sean White (throwing shoulder) and tailback Kamryn Pettway (left leg) that kept both out of the Alabama A&M game. Pettway also didnt play in a loss to Georgia that kept this from being a showdown for the SEC West title.Alabama has already clinched that and will face Florida in the SEC championship game.Senior Jeremy Johnson replaced White against Alabama A&M, passing for a touchdown and rushing for two more. Coach Gus Malzahn didnt offer any indication of Whites status for the Iron Bowl after the game.I think at this point its just being able to officially practice probably more than anything, Malzahn said. Well see where thats at. Im not ready to predict how hes going to feel in a day or two, or how hes going to do.For the most part, players from both teams skirted questions about the Iron Bowl after their respective games. Not Tide receiver Gehrig Dieter, who will experience his first after transferring from Bowling Green.I feel like everyone in the country kind of watches that game growing up, said Dieter, who caught two 1-yard touchdown passes against Chattanooga. I always watched it growing up, and its exciting that I have the chance to play in it. Its pretty exciting, as a team, what weve been doing this year, so we will come out next game and have an intensity about us.The general consensus among coach Nick Saban and Alabama players was that that intensity wasnt up to par in the latest game. The Tide fell behind early and led by a modest 14-3 at halftime.Tomlinson said players had already addressed the issues in the locker room before Saban came in wanting to know, Do you believe me now?He was angry, because Sabans always angry, Tomlinson said. He just got on everybody and made sure we were all focused.---More AP college football: www.collegefootball.ap.org and https://twitter.com/AP-Top25Wholesale Shoes Cheap . SAN DIEGO -- As Philadelphia Phillies starter Jerad Eickhoffs record attests, he has pitched in tough luck most of the 2016 season.Eickhoff, 26, is 6-12 despite a 3.68 ERA in 22 starts. His won-loss is really misleading, Phillies manager Pete Mackanin said recently. We havent consistently gotten him a lot of runs and hes lost a lot of close decisions. But Eickhoff could be catching a break Sunday when hes matched against Padres right-hander Jarred Cosart in the rubber match of a three-game series at Petco Park. There is this triple whammy hanging over the Padres this season. The Padres have struggled on Sundays (3-14), in day games (10-25) and in final games of series (8-27).And all three of the Padres problems are in play Sunday as they end a six-game homestand. The Padres have fared better recently in series finales (5-4 in the last nine) and day games (4-5). But they have made little gains on Sunday.I dont know what it is, Padres manager Andy Green said recently of the triple whammy. But Im pretty sure its most coincidence.Plus some lopsided pitching matchups, which it appears there is another one Sunday afternoon. As Mackanin said, Eickhoff deserves better. He has allowed only 129 hits in 132 innings. With a 112-31 strikeout-to-walk ratio, opponents have hit only .258 against him.And the Padres didnt come close to faring that well when Eickhoff faced them on April 13 in Philadelphia. Eickhoff shut out the Padres on four hits in seven innings and picked up the win in his only previous start against San Diego.dddddddddddd He didnt walk a batter and had nine strikeouts. In Eickhoffs two most recent starts, he has allowed one run and seven hits in 12 innings.Meanwhile, Cosart will be making his second start as a Padre. He went only 3 1/3 innings in his first outing, didnt allow a run and gave up only one hit. But he issued six walks and threw 77 pitches, of which only 34 were strikes. We like the stuff, Green said of the 26-year-old right-hander acquired in the July 29 trade that sent right-hander Andrew Cashner to the Marlins. The pitches are there, he just needs to command what he has.Cosart made four starts earlier in the season with the Marlins, although he was with Triple-A New Orleans when the trade was completed. Cosart was 0-1 with the Marlins with a 5.95 ERA. But during the final five starts of 2015, he was 1-1 with a 2.96 ERA.Starting pitching has become a major concern for the Padres. Short starts have been taxing the bullpen, which explains why the team is carrying eight relievers and Saturday replaced one veteran left-handed reliever (Matt Thornton) with another (Clayton Richard).Thornton is a one-inning pitcher. Richard can work longer and could spot start between now and the end of the season if the Padres need rotation help and Tyson Ross isnt available around Sept. 1 as expected. ' ' '
