Longtime NHL center Brad Richards has retired after 15 seasons in the league, the NHL Players Association announced Wednesday.?Richards made stops with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Dallas Stars, New York Rangers, Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings. A 2011 All-Star, he collected 298 goals and 634 assists in his 15 seasons.?Richards, 36, helped lead the Lightning to their only Stanley Cup title (2004), collecting 26 points in 23 playoff games and earning the Conn Smythe Trophy as MVP of the postseason. He also helped the Blackhawks to a Stanley Cup title in 2015.The Lightning and Blackhawks were among Richards former teams to congratulate Richards on Twitter. Former teammate and reigning MVP?Patrick Kane?also paid tribute to him in a tweet.I want to thank the fans and the five organizations I have played for: Tampa Bay, Dallas, and the three Original Six teams -- the New York Rangers, Chicago and Detroit, Richards said in a statement put out by the NHLPA. During my time with those teams I met many great people. I also want to thank the staff and management in those organizations for all the help and support they gave me. I appreciate all the trainers who did tireless work to help me play and keep me healthy.?I had many amazing teammates and made many great friendships along the way that I truly appreciate, and I will never forget the great times we had together. Thank you to all my coaches for pushing, teaching and giving me the opportunity to play this great game. Winning the Stanley Cups in Tampa Bay and Chicago was the best part of my career and I will never forget those moments. Nothing compares to enjoying that night with your team and knowing what you have accomplished together.?He won the 2004 Lady Byng Memorial trophy for sportsmanship and gentlemanly play. And in 2001, Richards finished second behind goalie Evgeni Nabokov in the NHLs rookie of the year vote.Richards was selected by the Lightning in the third round of the 1998 NHL draft. He made his NHL debut two years later, and after helping Rimouski Oceanic win consecutive Canadian Junior Memorial Cup titles. He spent six-plus seasons in Tampa Bay before being traded to Dallas in 2007-08.In the summer of 2011, Richards was regarded as the NHLs top free-agent prize and made a splash in signing a nine-year, $60 million contract with the Rangers. He spent only three seasons in New York before the Rangers elected to buy out the remainder of his contract in June 2014, a week after the team lost the Stanley Cup Final in five games to Los Angeles.Richards scored a career-best 28 goals with Dallas in 2010-11, and he twice totaled 91 points in 2005-06 with Tampa Bay and again four seasons later with Dallas.Hes coming off a season in which scored a career-low 10 goals and 28 points in 68 games with the Red Wings. The Associated Press contributed to this report. NEW YORK -- Patrick McEnroe, hosting the on-court trophy presentation, joked with Jamie Murray that they had something in common.Murray and his partner Bruno Soares had just seen off Spaniards?Pablo Carreno Busta and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-2, 6-3 to lift the US Open mens doubles title, on another brutally humid afternoon at Flushing Meadows.Like his younger brother, Murray is now a three-time Grand Slam champion, but he achieved something Andy Murray has never done by winning a second Grand Slam in a single year. Its nice. Im starting to move out of his shadow a little bit, but theres a long way to go, quipped Jamie. Andys had a great year reaching three Grand Slam finals. Winning Wimbledon was huge. He couldnt win this one but I did, so yeah, get it up you, Andy!Jamies comments may have been lighthearted ?-- I havent looked at my phone actually since we came off court, so see what Andy says, he later said with a mischievous grin in his press conference -- but throughout his career he has had to deal with seeing his brother take most of the limelight.Over the last few years, seeing him do so well all the time, Ive been wanting to have some of that success, as well, Jamie added. I think the last 18 months have started to really show what I can do on the tennis court. I hope that it will continue. The brothers from Dunblane, Scotland were actually next to each other in the locker room at Flushing Meadows this year, before Andys shock quarterfinal singles defeat to Kei Nishikori,?and will reunite next week to continue their Davis Cup title defence in the semifinal against Argentina in Glasgow.Weve been able to do a lot of amazing things in our lives onn a tennis court, said Jamie.dddddddddddd I guess when youre kind of living in a moment you dont always think about all that stuff. But if you take a moment and look at it, yeah, it is amazing what we have been able to do from a country of no history of tennis at all. I get quite emotional talking about it.Now a three-time major champion just like his brother, Jamie beat Andy in the race to win a first Grand Slam by claiming the mixed doubles title with Jelena Jankovic at Wimbledon in 2007.However, he tasted bitter defeats with then-partner John Peers in the mens doubles finals at the All England Club and the US Open last summer. The pair went their separate ways and Jamie joined forces with Soares at the start of this year -- they proved to be an instant hit, winning the Australian Open in Melbourne.I felt like Bruno was the guy that was going to help me achieve what I wanted to achieve on the doubles court, said Jamie. It was still a big decision to commit to not playing with John because we had a lot of success.I feel like Ive vindicated my decision, sitting here four Grand Slams later and weve won two of them.Jamie said he and Soares arrived in New York with a point to prove after both enduring a disappointing Olympics --?they are now the first mens doubles team to win multiple majors in a calendar year since the Bryan brothers in 2013.When asked if they could see each other staying together for a long time, a smiling Soares quickly said I hope so prompting laughter among the media. Cant do much more. Keep him with me. ' ' '
