FORT WORTH, Texas -- First-year TCU coach Jamie Dixon did a double-take when he saw the possibility that the Horned Frogs would have back-to-back games against Washington. When it actually happened, he stressed to his team the need to come out hungrier after beating the Huskies four days earlier in Las Vegas. Then TCU fell behind by 17 points in the first 10 minutes.Obviously that worked really well, Dixon said, able to enjoy a little sarcasm after his alma mater stayed unbeaten by rallying for an 86-71 win Wednesday night. Im working on that speech again.Alex Robinson scored 16 points, including nine on an 18-0 run that wiped out that early deficit, and freshman guard Jaylen Fisher had 14 of his 15 after halftime in the rare back-to-back meeting of non-conference foes.Robinson had a career-high 24 points in the first meeting of the Big 12 and Pac-12 opponents in the Global Sports Classic on Saturday. The Horned Frogs (7-0) won that one 93-80, but had just three points nearly nine minutes into the rematch after missing 15 of their first 17 shots. The sophomore guard from Fort Worth capped the 18-0 run with a 3-pointer for a 23-22 lead.We werent even looking at the score to be honest, said Robinson, who had seven assists and three steals. We were just focused play by play. We knew if we got stops then eventually we would come back.Freshman Markelle Fultz led the Huskies (4-3) with 21 points, 14 rebounds and six assists -- but had six of the Huskies season-high 25 turnovers. Carlos Johnson added 13 points and eight boards. Its our first away game, said Fultz, who said he took an elbow that bloodied his mouth early in the game. When they started to come back, I think the adversity got to us and we were just rushing things. The Frogs went ahead for good on a 3-pointer late in the first half by JD Miller, who had 12 points. Kenrich Williams had 10 points, 10 rebounds and six assists while matching Robinson with three steals, a game high. After trailing by 17, TCU took its first 17-point lead with four minutes remaining when Miller blocked a layup attempt by Dominic Green and Robinson converted a three-point play at the other end for a 75-58 advantage.HERE COME THE ZAGSFultz, a likely one-and-done player who drew representatives from 16 NBA teams in his visit to Texas, will get his second true road game closer to his college home. The Huskies play at No. 8 Gonzaga on Dec. 7. Ive heard about the crowd and stuff, Fultz said. Weve just got to get mentally focused for that game.DOUBLING UPIts the fourth time since 1979-80 that Washington has played a non-conference opponent twice in the same season, but the second time in as many years. Washington beat Texas in last seasons opener in China before the Longhorns won in the Bahamas. ... The last time Washington played the same non-conference opponent in back-to-back games was at Hawaii in 1975-76, winning both. ... TCU finished the 2009-10 season with consecutive losses to Mountain West Conference foe BYU. The Frogs beat Tulsa twice in non-conference in 2013-14 before going 0-18 in Big 12 play.BIG PICTUREWashington: The Huskies were dominant early behind Fultz but faded fast. They havent shown much depth behind the McDonalds All-American and will need to find some to be competitive in the Pac-12.TCU: The Frogs had some strong preseasons under former coach Trent Johnson as well, so it remains to be seen what this means with the difficult Big 12 season looming. But the Frogs have two straight wins over Power 5 conference foe (Washington) led by a top NBA prospect.UP NEXTWashington: The Huskies get a week off before the visit to the Zags in the biggest test left before the start of Pac-12 play against Washington State on New Years Day.TCU: This was the start of eight straight games in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, seven at home. Arkansas State visits Saturday. The lone road game is at SMU. RIO DE JANEIRO -- Australia turned to the best sister act in swimming to hold off an American team anchored by Katie Ledecky.Give the gold to Cate and Bronte Campbell. And a world record, too.The Campbells carried their squad to victory in the 4x100-meter freestyle relay Saturday night at the Rio Olympics, with little sister Bronte snatching the lead from Dana Vollmer on the third leg and big sister Cate pulling away from Ledecky on the final down-and-back for a time of 3 minutes, 30.65 seconds. The Aussies broke their own mark of 3:30.98 set two years ago. That wasnt the only world record to fall on a late night of swimming to kick off the games. Shaking off repeated frustration on the sports biggest stage, Katinka Hosszu of Hungary crushed the world record in the womens 400 individual medley to make the first Olympic medal of her career gold. Also, Japans Kosuke Hagino ended American dominance in the mens 400-meter individual medley, while Australias Mack Horton took down Sun Yang of China without giving his bitter rival so much as a passing glance. The victories by Horton and the womens relay team capped an impressive first night for an Australian team that captured only one swimming gold medal in London four years ago.Theyve already eclipsed that total, with seven more nights to go.Meanwhile, the powerful American managed three silvers but couldnt reach the top step on the podium.Simone Manuel and Abbey Weitzeil did their best in the relay, giving the U.S. a lead at the midway point. But Bronte Campbell was more than a second faster than Vollmer, who had competed about an hour earlier in the semifinals of the 100 butterfly, and Ledecky was no match for Cate Campbell, the world-record holder in the 100 free. The U.S. had to settle for silver in an American-record time of 3:31.89, extending a gold medal drought in the event that goes back to the 1996 Atlanta Games.Still, it gives Ledecky a strong shot at capturing five medals in Rio. Shes favored in the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle events, and could take another gold in the 4x200 free relay.Canada claimed the bronze in 3:32.89.Hosszu, known as the Iron Lady for her grueling schedule, had an especially sweet triumph. She had captured nine medals -- including five golds -- at the world championships but never won an Olympic medal. She defiantly pumped her chest before breaking into a huge smile. She had led all the way and touched in 4:26.36, easily eclipsing the record of 4:28.43 held by Chinas Ye Shiwen. Hosszu even had time to turn toward the scoreboard and watch Maya DiRado of the United States ttouch in 4:31.dddddddddddd15 to take the silver medal. Mireia Belmonte Garcia of Spain claimed the bronze in 4:32.39.Elizabeth Beisel of the U.S., the silver medalist at the 2012 London Games, finished sixth.Hagino took gold for Japan by holding off Chase Kalisz of the United States, becoming the first non-American to win the grueling event since 1992.Hagino and Japanese teammate Daiya Seto raced away from the field on the butterfly and backstroke legs before Kalisz began to close the gap. The American surged past Seto on the breaststroke and set his sights on Hagino. But the Japanese swimmer, who settled for bronze in this event at the 2012 London Games, held on to win in 4:06.05. Kalisz settled for the silver in 4:06.75, while Seto grabbed the bronze in 4:09.71.Ryan Lochte was the defending Olympic champion, but he finished third at the U.S. trials and didnt even qualify. Michael Phelps was the champion in 2004 and 2008, but hes dropped the 400 IM from his program. Tom Dolan was a back-to-back champion in 1996 and 2000.Tamas Darnyi of Hungary won gold at the 1992 Barcelona Games.Hortons victory came at the expense of Sun, the defending Olympic champion. The Aussie grabbed the lead for good on the next-to-last lap and held off the hard-charging Chinese star, who won both the 400 and 1,500 free at the 2012 London Games. What happened after the race was even more dramatic. The bad blood between the two was on display for all to see as Horton celebrated after the race without even acknowledging the runner-up. Sun made a move as though he wanted to congratulate Horton, but the winner looked the other way. They wound up climbing out of the pool side by side but never looked at each other. Hortons winning time was 3:41.55, just 13-hundredths of a second ahead of Sun. Italys Gabriele Detti rallied past American Conor Dwyer, the top qualifier in the prelims, to take the bronze in 3:43.49.After the prelims of the mens 400 freestyle, Horton was asked about a reported incident between the two at the practice pool earlier in the week. The Aussie said Sun splashed me to say hello, and I didnt respond because I dont have time for drug cheats.Sun served a three-month suspension for using a banned stimulant in 2014.Horton and Sun finally gave each other a begrudging handshake on the medal stand.---Follow Paul Newberry on Twitter at www.twitter.com/pnewberry1963.
