Englands netball team have the potential to win the next World Cup, says Manchester Thunder head coach Dan Ryan. Ryan left his home country of Australia to take charge of the Thunder in the summer and has steered the Manchester side to six wins in the Vitality Netball Superleague, with just a solitary loss.Thunders line-up features England internationals such as Helen Housby and Sara Bayman, who suffered a 3-0 Tri-series defeat to world champions Australia in January. Despite these defeats, Ryan believes the standard of netball has made big strides in this country, with homegrown players testing themselves against top overseas talent in the Superleague. But the former assistant at the Adelaide Thunderbirds insists English netball authorities must match the professional infrastructure in the ANZ Championship, if they want to challenge Australia and New Zealands national teams. If England can mirror what the Australians and New Zealand, then there is no reason why England cant be No 1 nation in the world at the next World Cup. Dan Ryan The Superleague at the moment is at the most exciting phase it has ever been at, Ryan told Sportswomen on Sky Sports News HQ. I think having the imports here is really important for promoting the product of the game, getting people to view matches on TV and in the audience. Roses set for summer series England set to play Australia, New Zealand, South Africa I think what England need to do as a national body is almost mirror what Australia and New Zealand do in terms of having full-time professional athletes. Here the athletes are just as good as anywhere else in the world, but the infrastructure and programmes need to match what the rest of the world are doing. If England can mirror what the Australians and New Zealand do back home, then there is no reason why England cant be No 1 nation in the world at the next World Cup. COLUMBIA, S.C. -- For a team outside the Power Five, East Carolina has done a great job of taking down some marquee programs. The Pirates have won six of their past eight Power Five matchups, including last weeks 33-30 victory over North Carolina State. Next up, the Pirates (2-0) take on a Southeastern Conference opponent in South Carolina (1-1).East Carolina coach Scottie Montgomery said the challenge for his team is using the confidence gained from defeating the Wolfpack at each practice, film session and workout until the team arrives at South Carolina for Saturdays game.Im not really concerned with last week as much as people probably think, the first-year Pirates coach said. It means a lot more outside of the building than it does in the building because were in season. Were so focused on the day and thats kind of the way were trying to raise our kids.Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp, also in his first season, couldnt agree more with his counterpart. South Carolina is searching for consistency on offense and defense and it matters little that this will be his first time on the Williams-Brice sidelines since taking over the permanent job from Steve Spurrier.South Carolina has yet to score in the opening half, trailing Vanderbilt 10-0 and Mississippi State 24-0 at the break. The Gamecocks rallied to beat the Commodores 13-10, but fell last week in Starkville, 27-14.At the end of the day, its about playing the right way, Muschamp said. Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp is again playing coy with his starting quarterback choice.
