ST. LOUIS -- Michael Wacha labored to get 12 outs and the lineup struck out 15 times. The bottom line: the St. Louis Cardinals first series after the All-Star break was no fresh start. It just continues to be really good, and then it just doesnt look quite right, manager Mike Matheny said after a 6-3 loss to the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Were always frustrated every time we walk off that field and it doesnt look like we played the way we should play.Wacha was pulled after throwing 101 pitches and the Marlins first three batters reached safely in their two-run fifth. They were grinding through seven- and eight-pitch at-bats, they were fouling off good pitches, Matheny said. Those add up at the end of the day.The outing matched Wachas shortest of the season coming off a stretch in which he was 3-1 with a 3.00 ERA in his previous six starts. It stinks, you put a lot of pressure on the bullpen, Wacha said. I felt good out there, but the command wasnt where I wanted it to be.The loss comes after Adam Wainwright threw a three-hit shutout on Saturday night, but on Friday, the bullpen blew two saves and then took the loss.Matt Holliday batted cleanup for the first time this season and was a bright spot with three of St. Louis four hits, including his 16th homer. But he didnt have much help ahead of him. Randal Grichuk struck out four times, Tommy Pham whiffed three times and the top three in the order mustered just two walks. Pham was 5 for 8 the first two games of the series with two homers on Friday. You cant wait for things to happen, you have to find a way, Pham said. If theres a will, theres a way, and theres definitely a way.Ichiro Suzuki doubled, singled twice and had another hit taken away on a replay challenge, leaving him six shy of 3,000 in Major League Baseball. The 42-year-old Suzuki made just his second start this month with All-Star Marcell Ozuna getting a day off. Hes been largely reduced to pinch hitting behind a set outfield and singled in that role on Friday.Suzuki also walked, scored a run and came up just short on his bid to beat out an infield hit. All of that in wilting, 93-degree heat for a player whod been 3 for 11 in July.Giancarlo Stantons second double of the game drove in the go-ahead run in a two-run seventh against Jonathan Broxton (1-2).Christian Yelich had two hits and three RBI and Jeff Mathis bunted home a hit for Miami, which took two of three for just its second series win the last seven years in St. Louis.Kyle Barraclough (5-2) had three strikeouts in 1 2/3 perfect relief innings and A.J. Ramos earned his 29th save in 30 chances. The bullpen worked 3 2/3 hitless innings after finishing with two spotless frames in a 5-0 loss Saturday. The Marlins have won five of six overall and are seven games above .500, matching their high water mark of the season.Marlins starter Adam Conley matched his career high with nine strikeouts, giving up two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings.TRAINERS ROOMCardinals: 1B-OF Brandon Moss (ankle) is making slow progress and is still in a walking boot.UP NEXTMarlins: Jose Fernandez (11-4, 2.52) works the opener of a four-game series at Philadelphia.
