Faf du Plessis has admitted he would not be opposed to becoming South Africas permanent Test captain. Du Plessis is standing in for AB de Villiers, a long-time friend who is expected to return from an elbow injury for the Sri Lanka series in the home summer, and has racked up results that will make it difficult for his influence to be ignored.Under du Plessis, South Africa beat New Zealand in a Test series at home - their first since the disappointing summer of 2016-17 - and inflicted a first-ever 5-nil ODI series whitewash on Australia. They have also now won a third successive Test series in Australia, prompting calls for du Plessis to continue as captain.I would. Ive always said it. I love captaining. Its something I really enjoy doing, du Plessis said. Its important to make sure that with all the stuff we talk about our culture, as a captain you live that and lead from the front. I am enjoying it at the moment. However long it continues, I will always do it.Du Plessis has also received support from Ian Chappell. The captaincy has been terrific. South Africa would be well advised to keep Faf du Plessis on as captain because hes a guy that is buoyed by that responsibility, Chappell said.Since taking over, du Plessis has scored 217 runs at 43.40, only marginally more than his overall average of 41.28, but has looked a more confident batsmen. Du Plessis was dropped for the last Test of the 2015-16 summer against England after a run of poor form but returned in de Villiers place for the New Zealand series, and immediately showed the kind of determination and technique that he displayed in Australia four years ago. At the same time, Chappell also thinks du Plessis being retained in the role will free de Villiers up.Im not convinced AB de Villiers wants that responsibility I think he might be happy to see Faf keep the job. AB seems to put himself out in the field - mid-on, mid-off and those sort of positions - put him back in the slips because hes an unbelievable slip fielder. Not only do you retain a very good captain in Faf, you bring back a terrific batsman who doesnt have that responsibility on his shoulders and you get one of the best fielders in cricket in the slips. Win-win all round, he said.De Villiers does, in fact, have a strong desire to lead. He made public his disappointment when Hashim Amla was appointed ahead of him in 2014 and accepted the job temporarily when Amla stepped down in January this year. After two Tests as a stand-in captain, de Villiers was appointed full-time in February but has not had a chance to lead in a Test since then.He has given no indication of an intention to pass on the armband although he acknowledged du Plessis leadership skills during the first Test. Top captaincy by @faf1307, de Villiers tweeted. Once again, not much to say when a team performs like that! Pure class. #ProteaFire at its best!!! Enjoy the celebrations guys- Umlilooooooo.Although ruled out for the entire Australia tour, de Villiers told FIVE AA radio that he hoped to make himself available for the day-night Test in Adelaide. At the time, he was considering flying to Hobart to prepare during the second Test. De Villiers has not travelled to Australia and Russell Domingo, South Africas coach, confirmed he did not think de Villiers would play in the third Test. That will delay a decision South Africa will have to make about how to make room for de Villiers in their line-up. Gary Harris Nuggets Jersey . I know its common knowledge that all players are responsible for their sticks. We witnessed that when Zack Kassian hit Edmontons Sam Gagner in the face after a missed check. Glasgow secured a European Champions Cup double over Racing 92 with an impressive 23-7 victory over last years runners-up at Scotstoun.Tries from Josh Strauss, Fraser Brown and Ali Price sent Glasgow top of Pool 1 with their third win in four matches, although they knew Munster would return to the summit on Saturday if they maintain their perfect record against Leicester. The French champions could not live with the tempo and variety of Glasgows attacking play and were 23 points behind after 46 minutes before they began to have any kind of forward momentum.Even then Warriors withstood the serious physical challenge, and some desperate defending maintained their clean sheet until the 79th minute. The visitors were much-changed following their 23-14 defeat by Glasgow in Paris last weekend, but Warriors only made one enforced switch.Simone Favaro dropped out with a shoulder injury and Strauss came in at number eight for his 100th Warriors appearance.Racing saw a good early opening foiled by a forward pass but it proved the last time they had the ball in the Glasgow 22 for almost 40 minutes.Warriors quickly got on top and Finn Russells kick sparked an attack that the visitors could not stop. Tommy Seymour took the ball on and fed Stuart Hogg whose inside pass allowed Strauss to cross in the fifth minute.Russell soon burst through several players but did not play the pass when he had his chance. However, Glasgow did not have to wait long for their second try and it was Russell who was the creator again, releasing Brown to force himself over inside 13 minutes.ddddddddddddRussell this time added the conversion and Glasgow continued their onslaught.Racing held out amid some sustained pressure just in front of the try line, with Hogg stopped a metre out, but Glasgow had a penalty waiting for them and Russell extended the lead to 15 points.Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend had described the revamped French pack as probably the biggest ever assembled but the hosts were dominating them and they moved further ahead when Russell notched an easy penalty after the visiting scrum collapsed.Racing were denied a stoppage-time try when Seymour held up Brice Dulin right in the corner after Dan Carters kick threatened to give the visitors a scarcely-deserved score.Warriors continued their domination after the interval and Price crossed after a clever dummy gave the scrum-half the chance to squeeze between two opponents.Racing finally found their attacking game but Warriors survived three times when the visitors looked set to touch down during a sustained spell of pressure.Townsends side gradually pushed the game up the park but they continued to defend and finally conceded with 60 seconds left when Xavier Chauveau went over near the corner.
