BATON ROUGE, La. -- From now on, Florida defensive tackle Cece Jefferson will think of LSUs Tiger Stadium as Swamp West. Its not simply because the Gators were supposed to host LSU this season before Hurricane Matthew blew ashore in October. There was also the matter of all the chatter suggesting Florida had tried to dodge LSU some six weeks ago -- and had used the storm as an excuse. But when time expired on Saturday, the orange-clad Gators were storming the field in euphoria after a dramatic goal-line stand preserved 16-10 triumph over the heavily favored, 16th-ranked Tigers -- and wrapped up Floridas second straight the Southeastern Conference East Division crown. There was a lot of buildup coming into the game, Gators defensive back Quincy Wilson said. The East was in our hands. The whole thing with the little hurricane and they were saying we were scared or whatever. Clearly, we aint scared. We came into their place and handled business.Florida had balked at initial offers to move the game to LSU as Hurricane Matthew approached in early October, or to play at home one or two days after the originally scheduled time. That left the SEC little choice but to postpone the game until both teams could buy out non-league opponents more than a month later. But LSU refused to give up a home game, forcing Florida to travel if it wanted a shot to play for a conference title. The way I look at it, they got what they deserved -- and it should have been worse, Florida coach Jim McElwain said about LSU.There was trash talking during warmups -- and ultimately a pre-game scuffle. Floridas Wilson was in the middle of it.One of their guys was in my way and I bumped into him on purpose to set it off, Wilson said. It gave us a lot of juice. Because, you know, they were disrespecting us and they disrespected us on the field. So just to send a little message that were not just going to take whatever yall trying to do.Wilson found it fitting that the scuffle began among defensive backs from the two teams. Both programs like to boast that they are DBU, because of all the NFL prospects they seem to have annually in their respective defensive backfields. With that in mind, Florida cornerback Jalen Tabor delighted in the fact that Floridas lone touchdown came on a 98-yard passing play from Austin Appleby to Tyrie Cleveland.DBU? Tabor said incredulously, referring to the longest scoring pass LSU has ever allowed in Tiger Stadium. Oh, wow!Several Gators made reference to their 6-0 record at home this season, even thought theyd played only five true home games in the real Swamp. It was also a special moment for veteran Gators who had yet to beat LSU. The Tigers had won the previous three meetings. Its the greatest feeling in the world man, because we just felt disrespected, you feel me? Florida defensive tackle Caleb Brantley said. Like, youre going to come at us and say were scared, when yall didnt want to come to Gainesville? So, you know what Im saying? We just going to come whoop yall in yalls stadium. Straight, like that.Brantley called the raucous celebration that erupted after LSU running back Derrius Guice was stopped inches short of the goal line on the final play one of the best feelings I ever had as a Gator.Someone then asked about another rivalry game notorious for trash talking that is next on the schedule: Floridas visit to Florida State next Saturday.Ill look at Florida State tomorrow, Brantley said. Jonathan Lucroy had four hits, Yovani Gallardo threw eight scoreless innings and Milwaukee beat the Miami Marlins 6-1 Monday night for its fourth consecutive victory. Carlos Gomez had three hits and two RBIs for Milwaukee, while Lucroy also drove in a pair of runs. Rickie Weeks homered among his three hits for the Brewers, who tied a season high with 16 hits despite playing without Braun after he aggravated his sore right thumb Sunday against Philadelphia. "Anytime you have one of your big boys out and you can score and do what we did and get that many hits, its big," Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said. Gallardo (5-6) won for the second time since April 29 and became the third Brewers pitcher to strike out 1,000 batters, joining Ben Sheets and Teddy Higuera. "Getting 1,000 strikeouts, its a big number," Gallardo said. "Its definitely a lot of work. Its a lot of pitches thrown. Its one of the goals and hopefully keep moving forward to get to the next one." The right-hander allowed four hits and one walk while striking out four on 108 pitches before turning it over to Donovan Hand in the ninth. "Anytime you go eight innings its definitely a good day," Gallardo said. The Marlins scored on a groundout to avoid the shutout, but have managed no more than one run in 21 of their 63 games. Miamis record is a major league-worst 18-45. "We didnt do anything with (Gallardo)," manager Mike Redmond said. "Give him credit. He pitched well." Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton went 1 for 4 in his first game since April 29 after missing 36 due to a right hamstring injury. &quuot; It was miserable not being able to play so I was happy I was out there," Stanton said.dddddddddddd Ricky Nolasco (3-7) allowed a season-high 10 hits and four runs in 5 1-3 innings. Nolasco is 2-3 with a 7.58 ERA in eight starts against Milwaukee. "All night was tough," Nolasco said. "Its one of those games you want to go as deep as you can and not kill the pen." The Brewers got to Nolasco early, scoring two runs in the first inning on RBI singles by Gomez and Lucroy. Gomez added another RBI single in the second for a 3-0 lead. "Its easier when you get runs early in the game, especially in the first inning," Gomez said. "Everybody has a good feeling the rest of the game to continue the good job." Weeks fifth home run, a solo shot in the third, stretched it to 4-0. Weeks is 9 for 20 in his last seven games to raise his batting average over .200 for the first time since April 16. "Thats a huge pickup for what we need there and hopefully this continues," Roenicke said. Gomez tripled leading off the seventh and scored on a single by Lucroy. Juan Francisco added a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0. Juan Pierre tripled in the ninth off Hand and scored on a groundout by Ed Lucas. Brewers RF Norichika Aoki extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double leading off the game. He is batting .341 (15 for 44) during the streak. ...
