LOUDON, N.H. -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. has dropped out of the Sprint Cup race Sunday at New Hampshire Motor Speedway because of symptoms of a concussion.Earnhardt was evaluated in Charlotte, North Carolina, this week and doctors did not clear him to race. Hendrick Motorsports said Thursday it had no timetable for his return.Alex Bowman will drive in his place.NASCARs most popular driver, Earnhardt was involved in a 22-car wreck in Daytona this month and also wrecked last month at Michigan International Speedway. He says he was feeling fine last week and thought the problem was allergies. When that didnt help, he met with a neurologist.Earlier this year, Earnhardt pledged his brain to researchers looking into the connection between concussions and traumatic brain injuries.Im looking forward to treatment with the goal of getting back in the race car when the doctors say Im ready, Earnhardt said.Earnhardt Jr. at least twice in his career hid concussion symptoms to avoid being removed from his car. In 2012, he sought medical attention several days after a crash at Talladega because of symptoms he knew were concussion-related. During that examination, it was determined hed suffered two concussions in six weeks and was sidelined for two weeks of healing.NASCAR required the next year for drivers to submit a baseline neurocognitive assessment. When a driver in NASCAR cant return his damaged car to the garage, a trip to the care center is required, and under a new three-step process, if a driver shows any indication of a head injury they go immediately to a hospital. Concussed drivers must be cleared by a neurologist or neurosurgeon before they can get back in a race car.The 41-year-old Earnhardt is winless this season and 13th in the points standings. Because he will not start every race, Earnhardt will need a waiver from NASCAR to compete in the Chase for the Sprint Cup championship, if hes meets other eligibility requirements.Hendrick Motorsports will provide an update next week on Earnhardts status for the July 24 race at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.Im proud of Dale for standing up, team owner Rick Hendrick said. The number-one priority is his health, so were going to give him all the time he needs. We completely support the decision by the doctors and will be ready to go win races when hes 100 percent. In the meantime, we have full confidence in Greg (Ives) and the team, and we know theyll do a great job.The 23-year-old Bowman has not raced in the Cup series this season and had no top-10 finishes in 71 starts over the 2014-2015 seasons. He drives part-time in the second-tier Xfinity Series for Earnhardts JR Motorsports team. Cheap Nike Lunar Shoes Online . Quade Cooper will only enhance the Wallabies chances after his shock selection at five-eighth for Saturdays second Bledisloe Cup Test in Wellington, All Blacks coach Steve Hansen says.Cooper has been thrown into the No.10 jersey for his first match at international level since last years World Cup, replacing Bernard Foley, who moves to inside centre to replace Matt Giteau (ankle). The 28-year-old has a patchy record in New Zealand, where he has been booed mercilessly by local supporters and targeted by the All Blacks as a weak link in defence. But Hansen offered something of a defence of Cooper when asked for his view of the selection.Quades a good player. He gets maligned a wee bit over here because of a few incidents with Richie [McCaw], Hansen told reporters. Were not too forgiving of people who pick on Rich - Im talking about the fans.Within the team hes well respected. Hell enhance them, I think.Hansen - who, along with McCaw, called for New Zealand fans to get over their hatred of Cooper last year - expects the Wallabies will look to kick more and play a territory game as a result of his selection.dddddddddddd.All Blacks five-eighth Beauden Barrett hopes a sold-out Westpac Stadium takes it easy on Cooper.Hes a good bloke and he deserves to be treated like anyone else, Barrett said.I havent seen him play for a while but what we remember of him is his skills, his fast feet, hes a really good stepper. Well analyse his kicking.Australia hasnt won in New Zealand since 2001 and are the biggest outsiders in Bledisloe Cup history this week, but Hansen is bracing for the kitchen sink to be thrown their way.If we dont have an attitude that we want to go and put two hands on the cup by taking it, if we wait and sit back, Australia will smack us, he said. Then well be in trouble.
