Mercedes have topped the testing timesheets for the first time in 2016 as F1s world champions gave a first true glimpse of their new cars potential. After prioritising reliability over performance running in the first week of testing in Barcelona, Mercedes began to take the shackles off the W07 on the opening day of the final test - and with ominous results for their rivals.Nico Rosbergs morning in the car produced the fastest times seen at testing on the soft and medium tyre. Mercedes times were half a second quicker than Ferrari have managed on either compound so far.Rosbergs best soft tyre lap of 1:23.022 was also just two tenths shy of the fastest overall time set last week by Sebastian Vettel on ultrasofts - a compound which has a performance advantage of over a second. Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg looks in fine form during the final pre-season test Rosberg: Its very close between Mercedes and FerrariHowever, despite their apparent advantage of half a second, Rosberg told Sky Sports News HQ: Its very close between Ferrari and us - and another team might be there as well.Lewis Hamilton took over the W07 in the afternoon and finished sixth after running exclusively on the slower medium tyres.Williams gave little indication of their form in week one, but also enjoyed an encouraging Tuesday. Valtteri Bottas clocked the days second-quickest lap, set on ultrasoft tyres, having already set the second best time of either test on soft tyres.Sky Sports F1s schedule for the second Barcelona testWhile McLaren-Honda are unlikely to be in the fight at the front in the short-term, the under-pressure team delivered arguably their best day of testing since the partnership was revived 12 months ago.Fernando Alonso finished third on the timesheets after taking the soft tyres to a lap of 1:24.735. After stumbling on the final two days of the first test, McLaren completed 92 laps with their only delay occurring when a telemetry problem stopped the MP4-31 on track just before lunch. This weeks test is the really important one, Jenson Button told Sky Sports in an exclusive interview ahead of his return to the car on Wednesday.McLaren boss Eric Boullier told reporters on Monday that he expected massive gains from the team this season. Test One: How every team rated Mercedes and Ferrari impress - but as for McLaren... Ferrari too ran into their own reliability problems, with Kimi Raikkonen losing two hours of track time after his SF16-H became stuck in eighth gear. The Finn was fourth with 72 laps.Although the Raikkonen did clock Ferraris fastest time of testing on medium tyres, his 1:24.836 was half a second slower than Rosbergs own medium-tyre effort. We have a good feeling, said Raikkonen. We have for sure made quite a good progress over the winter. I think were more or less where we want to be. Ferrari does its best to conceal any 2016 upgrades from competitors at Formula Ones pre-season testing in Barcelona Red Bull finished fifth with Daniil Kvyat but ran into more lengthy delays after the RB12s rear brakes caught fire in the pit lane. However, Haas endured the most disappointing Tuesday of all as their VF-16 ran for just 23 laps in the morning before a fuel pump problem curtailed Esteban Gutierrezs day.Its the first time that has cropped up, said Haas team boss Guenther Steiner. We needed a bit of time to react to it and we will be out again [on Wednesday].We are working on it now. We used the afternoon to simulate like a race weekend to go to the FIA to check the car for deflection [tests].Barcelona Test Two, Day One timesheet1. BELLEFONTE, Pa. -- The former Penn State assistant football coach who is suing the school told jurors Friday he was angered when told he could not return to team facilities after being put on leave the week Jerry Sandusky was charged with child molestation.Mike McQueary testified in the fifth day of trial in his lawsuit. Hes seeking more than $4 million in lost wages and other claims.School officials have testified that safety concerns prompted them to put McQueary on paid administrative leave in November 2011, and he never returned to the football program. They tell me, the guy who turned in a pedophile to stay away from team facilities, he testified. And they let him go around there for years after they knew about it not once, but twice. That gets me. That does not make sense to me. Its wrong.McQueary says he saw Sandusky, Penn States former defensive coordinator, sexually abusing a boy in a team shower in 2001. McQueary reported it to then-head coach Joe Paterno and two administrators. Another complaint was investigated in 1998 but produced no charges until authorities took a new look at the case starting in 2009.McQuearys testimony helped convict Sandusky of 45 counts of child sexual abuse in 2012, but he has not been able to find a job.McQueary told jurors he got a sense his status with the program was in trouble in the days after Sandusky was chargeed with molestation and two high-ranking school officials were charged with perjury and failing to properly report suspected child abuse.ddddddddddddThe only university official who offered him words of encouragement during that period was Paterno, he said. McQueary recounted an exchange they had on the practice field shortly before the schools trustees fired Paterno. He said the aging coach told McQueary he had not done anything wrong and warned him not to trust Old Main -- the administration building. He specifically said, Make sure you have a lawyer. Youre all right. You didnt do anything wrong. He was very, the word I want to use is unselfish about all of it, McQueary said.He also recounted seeing Sandusky with the boy in the shower in 2001, slamming his locker door shut and seeing that they had separated.McQueary did not say anything, physically intervene or call police, but he did contact Paterno the next day.I think one of the concerns perhaps in the very first minute is, whos going to believe me? Who is going to believe when I tell them that Jerry Sandusky was doing this? McQueary testified. I didnt know if my dad would believe me. I didnt know if anyone would believe me. And to his credit, Coach Paterno did believe me. ' ' '
