CINCINNATI -- Andy Daltons most important passes didnt even make it past the line of scrimmage. Mike Nugent missed another extra point. And the Bengals lost yet another game in throwback fashion, making every sort of mistake.Heading into December, its clear theyve bungled their season away, too.A 19-14 loss in Baltimore on Sunday left the Bengals (3-7-1) pretty much finished for 2016.Theyre 2+ games behind Baltimore (6-5) and Pittsburgh (6-5) with only five left. The defending AFC North champs would have to run the table, and the Ravens and Steelers both would have to have meltdowns for the Bengals to reach the playoffs. They know the odds of that happening arent good at all. The Bengals have reached the playoffs a club-record five consecutive seasons, and that streak is about to get snapped. We know some things have to break our way now, coach Marvin Lewis said on Monday .Also, they know they havent played well enough at any point this season to consider themselves playoff-worthy.That was the case again on Sunday in Baltimore, where they played well enough to stay in the game but no more.Dalton has been under constant pressure during the season, getting sacked 32 times -- fourth most in the NFL.Even when theyre not getting to Dalton, defenders are making it tough on him. Four of Daltons last eight passes were batted down at the line as the Ravens set their defense to take away the downfield throw and focused on knocking down the short ones.Four of eight passes knocked down? Mind-boggling.Those things happen very, very rarely, offensive coordinator Ken Zampese said on Monday. I mean, this was the first time that came up, it came up in a big way, and it ended up hurting us, so here we are talking about it.The game in Baltimore was in some ways their worst yet at protecting the quarterback.Dalton had four fumbles, losing two of them. The most costly came on a play from the Baltimore 16-yard line in the first half. Dalton was changing the play at the line of scrimmage when center Russell Bodine snapped the ball, causing the turnover. The Bengals switched from Bodine to backup center T.J Johnson for a couple of series in the third quarter. To calm the troops a little bit, Lewis said.Three times in the second half, Dalton was sacked and fumbled. The last one came when the Bengals were driving for a potential tying touchdown in the closing minutes. Dalton was sacked by Elvis Dumervil and fumbled, allowing the Ravens to close it out with a safety that ran out the clock. And it wasnt only the passing game that involved struggles by Bengals blockers. Cincinnati rushed for only 64 yards -- 14 by Dalton -- as the latest chapter in a season-long problem. With no running game to worry them, the Ravens were able to get after Dalton. When they scored their only touchdown, Nugent missed the extra point wide right, the fourth time hes missed a point-after-touchdown try in four games. Lewis reiterated on Monday that the Bengals have no plans to bring in another kicker for a tryout.Missed PATs, those are things that affect the football team, affect us and our opportunity, Lewis said. But you know, we are where we are.Game notesThe Bengals host Philadelphia (5-5) on Sunday . SEATTLE -- An injury to defender Andy OBrien cost the Vancouver Whitecaps a milestone victory. Vancouver coughed up a one-goal lead after a second-half injury felled OBrien on Saturday and the Whitecaps lost to Seattle 3-2, costing the team its first-ever win against the Sounders. "When we lost him, the game opened up," Whitecaps head coach Martin Rennie said. "We were disjointed. I dont think any team in MLS can lose three -- really, weve lost four -- centre backs and be fine." OBrien went down in the 62nd minute with a hamstring strain. He said he felt it stretch when he reached for a ball. Not helping him was the field surface, temporary grass laid on top of the artificial turf at CenturyLink Field. With OBriens injury, Vancouver will now miss him, Jay DeMerit, Brad Rusin and Carlyle Mitchell at that position for the foreseeable future. "I dont think (the field) was great in the sense that it probably contributed to my injury," OBrien said. "It was unpredictable with the bounces, and its not ideal." Goalkeeper Brad Knighton went further in condemning the surface. "The field was ridiculously terrible," he said. "Its heavy, its bumpy, the turfs coming up. Its a weird surface to play on, and anytime you put grass on top of turf, youre going to get that." Neither OBrien nor Rennie could estimate how long the veteran defender would be out of action. Greg Klazura entered the match for OBrien, and he had to play out of position. Normally a wide defender, Klazura looked out of place in the middle. He conceded the penalty kick that tied the game after Vancouver took an early 2-1 lead. Camilo Sanvezzo gave the Whitecaps that lead with two headers, assisted by Russell Teibert. Both goals came in a 16-minute span in the first half. "There are loots of things for us to build on from this game," Rennie said.dddddddddddd"Camilo also had a fantastic free kick that was rebounded that we really had a good chance to make that 3-1. At that point, it would have been hard for them to get back." Sanvezzo added: "Its positive that I scored, but I think the team played well. a I think everybody had a good game, and we just need to pick up from here." However, Vancouver failed to capitalize on Sanvezzos free-kick opportunity, and in the second half, Seattle scored two goals of its own in a 10-minute burst to tie and win the game. Both goals came after OBrien left with his injury. "When you lose someone like 1/8OBrien 3/8 and you have to play your left back at right-centre back a that can happen," Rennie said. Sounders FC expanded its stadium capacity for the visiting Whitecaps, recognizing the games appeal because of the regional rivalry. The official attendance was 53,679. Seattle has never lost in front of a home crowd larger than 50,000. "It was a great contingent of fans from Vancouver as well that followed their team," Sounders FC head coach Sigi Schmid said. "It had a tremendous atmosphere." As a result of the win, Sounders FC (6-4-3, fourth place in Western Conference) also took the lead in the Cascadia Cup. They sit in first place, above the Portland Timbers in second and Vancouver in third, in the fan-created tournament. The Whitecaps (4-5-4, seventh place) return home for two consecutive matches, on June 15 and 19 against the New England Revolution and Chivas USA, respectively. "Our home form has been very good, so we need to perform really well in those games," Rennie said. "It would be nice to get six points, and I think were definitely capable of that." ' ' '
