VIRGINIA WATER, England -- Tiger Woods and Sergio Garcia dont like each other, and theyre making no effort to disguise their feelings. The verbal feuding began May 11 during the third round of The Players Championship. It resumed this week on both sides of the Atlantic when Woods offered a one-word answer if he thought about contacting Garcia to put the matter to rest. "No," he replied with a tight smile. Garcia fired back at a sponsor function outside London. "He called me a whiner. Thats probably right," he told reporters. "Its also probably the first thing hes told you guys thats true in 15 years. I know what he is like. You guys are finding out." Garcia tried to tone down the barbs Tuesday at the BMW Championship when asked about the spat. "I cant like everybody and theres people that you connect with and theres people that you dont," Garcia said at Wentworth. "He doesnt need me in his life, I dont need him in mine and lets move on and keep doing what were doing. Theres never really been a true connection I would have with maybe Luke (Donald) or Adam Scott or some of the other guys that I get along with well. "I think we should kind of move on and forget -- well, it will be difficult to forget -- but kind of move on about what happened." Then Garcia inadvertently stirred things up again later Tuesday while appearing at the European Tours awards dinner in England. The British newspaper The Guardian reported Garcia was asked in jest if he would invite Woods to dinner during the U.S. Open. The Guardian reported Garcia said: "We will have him round every night. We will serve fried chicken." The newspaper says Garcia released a statement through the European Tour: "I apologise for any offence that may have been caused by my comment on stage during The European Tour Players Awards dinner. I answered a question that was clearly made towards me as a joke with a silly remark, but in no way was the comment meant in a racist manner." Disputes among golfers are nothing new, though its rare for two high-profile players to go at each other through the media. The animosity between them goes as far back as 2000, when Garcia beat Woods in the Monday night exhibition "Battle at Bighorn" and celebrated as if he had won something much more important. Two years later in the U.S. Open at Bethpage Black, where Woods won wire-to-wire, Garcia complained that the second round should have been halted because of rain and that "if Tiger Woods would have been out there, it would have been called." The latest chapter took place on the second fairway at the TPC Sawgrass in the third round, when Garcia had a one-shot lead. He was preparing to play his second shot on the par 5 from the fairway when he was disrupted by cheers from the gallery around Woods deep in the trees. Woods was about 50 yards away and couldnt see the Spaniard. The crowd burst into cheers when Woods took a 5-wood from his bag to play a risky shot through a gap in the trees. During a storm delay, Garcia suggested in a TV interview that Woods could have kept the crowd from cheering if he had been paying closer attention. Later that evening, Woods said he understood from marshals that Garcia had already hit. "Not real surprising that hes complaining about something," Woods added, which only fired up the Spaniard. Garcia said the next day to Sky Sports, "Hes not the nicest guy on tour." Woods wound up winning The Players Championship, improving his record to 6-0 when he plays with Garcia in the final group on the weekend. Woods was at media day Monday for the AT&T National, where he is the defending champion, when he received the final question about Garcia and gave the one-word answer. Garcia offered a more detailed response when asked in England if he would ever call Woods. "First of all, I dont have his number," Garcia said. "And secondly, I did nothing wrong and dont have anything to say to him. And he wouldnt pick up the phone, anyway." Garcia conceded their dislike for each other has been "going on for a long time." "The problem is, Im one of the guys that has to say something," Garcia said. "A lot of people think about it, but dont want to say anything. He can and will beat me a lot of times, but is not going to step on me. Im not afraid of him." Woods has competed against more than 50 players in match play since 1997, though he has never played Garcia. The Spaniard was asked he would like to face Woods in the Ryder Cup next year at Gleneagles. "Its great, and it is what it is, and it doesnt mean I cannot play with him," Garcia replied. "Its just another player -- obviously, a good player. Its just when Im playing with someone I enjoy, theres a bit more talking going around, and youre playing with someone that you dont fancy as much, youre just a little bit quiet." Troy Brown Jersey . Aduriz headed home Markel Susaetas cross in the sixth minute to open the scoring at San Mames Stadium. He bettered that with a long-range blast that went in off the goal frame in the 18th, and converted a penalty in the 72nd after Diego Mainz was sent off for fouling Aduriz with only the goalkeeper to beat. Mike Nugent Jersey . Nathan MacKinnon, Jamie McGinn and Jan Hejda also scored for the Avalanche, who won despite being outshot 38-23. MacKinnons goal, also on the power play, came with just over a minute remaining. https://www.patriotsjerseysale.com/1821p-joe-thuney-jersey-patriots.html . They had already blown a double-digit lead, fans were hitting the exits, and a long seven-game road trip waited at the end. Richard Seymour Jersey . Brad Jacobs and his Sault Ste. He had been watching the draft on TV with some friends in a dormitory room Saturday at the Vauxhall Academy of Baseball. Resigned to the fact it didnt look good for him and a few teammates, Thibideau got up off the couch and planned to go get some dinner. Instead his buddies swarmed him in celebration. "As soon as I stood up my name got called and then the boys just jumped on me," Thibideau said Monday from Vauxhall, Alta. "I was like, No way. Because I didnt even hear my name. I just saw their reaction and everything." The San Diego Padres used their final pick of the 40-round draft to take the Canadian shortstop from Dartmouth, N.S. Thibideau was selected at No. 1,198 overall -- just 18 picks from the bottom. The Padres called about an hour after the selection was made to congratulate him and said theyd be back in touch soon. "I was just so overwhelmed as soon as my name was called," he said. "I guess the (phone) call just kind of ensured that I was drafted, that it wasnt an (error)." Thibideau is finishing off his school year while he continues training with teammates. He plans to return home for the summer and is taking a wait-and-see approach for the fall. The Padres have yet to make him an offer. "I got drafted really late so Im nnot expecting a lot," he said.dddddddddddd. Thibideau said he has committed to Central Michigan in Mount Pleasant, Mich., and Midland College in Midland, Tex. "Its either going to be college or hopefully pro ball if I get what I want." Standing five foot 11 and weighing 175 pounds, Thibideau broke Vauxhalls all-time record this year with a .485 batting average. The 18-year-old has played second base since joining the Canadian junior team last fall. He was picked up by the national side in November and has made trips to Florida and the Dominican Republic with the squad. Thibideau said he tries to model his game after New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. "Hes been my role model since I was a little kid," he said. Left-handed pitcher Rob Zastryzny of Edmonton was the first Canadian selected in this years draft. The Chicago Cubs picked him at No. 41 last Thursday. The Toronto Blue Jays picked a pair of Canadians: right-hander Sean Ratcliffe of Ajax, Ont., in the 18th round (No. 535) and catcher Mike Reeves of Peterborough, Ont., in the 21st round (No. 625). In all, 19 Canadians were picked before Thibideaus name was finally selected. An afternoon he came close to forgetting turned into one hell always remember. "By the 39th round, I was just getting tired of watching and everything," he said. "I was about to call it quits and the boys just stayed around." Hes glad they did. ' ' '
