NEW ORLEANS -- New Orleans has been selected as the host city for the 2022 mens college basketball Final Four, the NCAA announced on Thursday. The decision means New Orleans is set to host college basketballs mens semifinals and championship game for the sixth time -- each time in the Superdome.New Orleans has an incredibly rich history of hosting the Final Four, and for a variety of reasons it was determined that 2022 was the perfect year to bring the event back to the Crescent City, said Dan Gavitt, vice president for mens basketball championships. New Orleans is a festive place that embraces this event and makes it special for participating student-athletes and fans. With a little luck, well get some of the same Final Four magic weve been treated to in the past.Gavitt said the NCAA also was eager to grant the 2022 event to New Orleans because it comes on the 40th anniversary of the 1982 Final Four, which also was held in New Orleans and was highlighted by Michael Jordans game-winning jump shot that lifted North Carolina to the national title over a Georgetown squad let by Patrick Ewing.New Orleans last hosted the Final Four in 2012, when Kentucky, led by current New Orleans Pelicans All-Star forward Anthony Davis, defeated Kansas for the national championship. The NCAA stated that its mens basketball committee decided to forego the traditional site selection process for the 2022 Final Four and move decisively to secure the event in New Orleans, which narrowly missed being picked during the last bid cycle that concluded with Phoenix, San Antonio, Minneapolis, Atlanta and Indianapolis awarded the 2017 through 2021 Final Fours.A Final Four site selection process slated to begin next year remains on schedule, but now will focus on the 2023, 2024 and 2025 locations, which are expected to be announced by the summer of 2018, the NCAA said. With the Final Four competing for many of the same venues that host major events such as the Super Bowl and College Football Playoff, we did not want to wait until 2018 to make the announcement for the 2022 Final Four, Gavitt said. That, combined with the milestone anniversaries well celebrate at that time, made the decision to move forward with New Orleans hosting in 2022 the sensible thing to do. LONDON -- After fending off a break point to hold at the start of the fifth set, Andy Murray turned to his box, shook his finger and said: Theres no way Im losing this match. He backed that up by breaking Jo-Wilfried Tsonga for a 2-0 lead in the decider, having earlier surrendered a two-set lead on Centre Court. You could only enjoy how fired up he was, bounding around and pumping his fists in the air.Murray lost only one more game and closed out a 7-6 (10), 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-1 victory after nearly four hours. It was 8:42 p.m. when they finished. Ivan Lendl even stifled a yawn in the players box as the world No. 2 came out to serve for the match.Im sure I played a few matches here and in Davis Cup where I would have been as fired up, Murray told a media conference. But today was definitely up there. After losing the fourth set from 4-2 up, Murray could have imploded with one of his tantrums, but instead he brought the crowd back into the match. Its important to try to use the crowd, if you can, to your advantage, because they do make a difference, he said. In long matches, tough matches, even if its half a percent difference, its good.I try to get the crowd into it as much as I can when Im playing a home tournament. That was no easy task, given the amount of energy the crowd expended during Wednesdays first match on Centre Court. Those who paid for a ticket certainly got their moneys worth, having earlier seen Roger Federer escape from two sets down for an epic comeback win against Marin Cilic. When you get out there, its up to you to create an atmosphere a little bit, Murray said. Its totally understandable thats going to be the case after a match like that. That was a great match. The crowd were unbelievable today. They got two pretty good matches, as well, I think.Murray has been full of positive energy since reuniting with Lendl on the eve of Queens, and this was a 10th successive win for their rekindled partnership. Its beneficial having him [there, foor sure, because I trust him, have a lot of confidence in him, Murray said of Lendl.dddddddddddd He can help when Im on the court a little bit, just his presence. Might be a small amount, but like I said, every little bit helps. The prematch stuff, the work that you do in preparation for the matches, is where you get the big benefit. When this tournaments finished, the sort of training weeks are really where I think you get the biggest benefit. Hopefully, Ill have a few of them between now and the end of the year. The presence of Lendl could add some spice to Fridays semifinal. Murrays opponent, Tomas Berdych, approached Lendl about a potential coaching role after he had split with the Scot the first time around in 2014.Berdych, who defeated?Lucas Pouille?in the quarterfinals, said Lendl had told him he doesnt have the time and he [doesnt] want to be involved in tennis, but then went on to reunite with Murray. So thats how it is. I mean, its another opponent for me, he said of Murray. [Im] just going to try to focus on my next match. Is it frustrating for him to see Lendl in Murrays corner? No, absolutely not, Berdych said.Murray had been marching through these championships with almost zen-like serenity before his quarterfinal against Tsonga and hadnt dropped a set or lost his serve. If he needed a jolt to get himself ready for a potential final against Federer -- and he talked before the match about the benefits of an adrenaline charge -- then the five-set win over Tsonga was a valuable outing.I was definitely tested a lot today, he said. That was a really hard match to come through. It can give you a bit of confidence. It can help to go through games and stages in matches that are challenging. If youre in that position in the next couple of matches, you know youve been there. So Im hoping it helps me the next couple of rounds. ' ' '
