Gulutzan was fired on May 14 after two seasons in Dallas. He compiled a record of 64-57-9 in his first NHL head coaching job, and his team missed the playoffs in both of his seasons behind the bench. The Canucks have been looking for a new bench boss since dismissing Vigneault after being swept in the first round by the San Jose Sharks. Ruff was fired in February after 15 seasons behind the Buffalo bench.
